Pop star Katy Perry is said to be “devastated” by the death of actor Johnny Lewis, a source close to the singer told Us Weekly, after learning of his tragic end on Thursday.
Lewis and Perry dated for about a year in 2005-2006, before the Perry hit it big with her 2008 hit “I Kissed a Girl,” and the actor is said to have inspired several of Perry’s early songs. Sources say that Perry ended the relationship at the time because Lewis was already showing signs of trouble.
“”She had to separate from him . . . to get ahead and focus on her career,” the source explains. “He was in trouble then and she couldn’t help him. A lot of her songs were partially inspired by him. I know ‘The One That Got Away’ and ‘Circle the Drain’ are partly about him, as well as Travis [McCoy, of Gym Class Heroes]. But she was young and it was a time in her life she cherishes.”
Adds the source, “They had good times. It’s really sad. She could never help him and couldn’t [let herself] go in that direction.”
The body of the 28-year-old actor, perhaps best known for his role as Kip “Half-Sack” Epps on the FX smash “Sons of Anarchy,” was discovered Wednesday in the driveway of a home in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, where he was apparently renting a room.
Lewis died after either falling or jumping from the roof of the house, it is believed, after allegedly beating the owner of the home, 81-year-old Catherine Davis — his presumed landlady — to death.
