Remind them of people just like them that used 2 years of community college to build the skillset to start their own business - and now they're millionaires.  Remind them that anyone can do it - just get an education, an idea, and run with it.
Remind them that being poor sucks and you only have to kick ass for a few years and you'll make your nut - the rest of your life will be easier as a result.
(in my case - your law degree will change it...)
Remind them that YOU grew up in the projects and trailer parks, and now you have your MBA, and a repub president named Bush made the necessary globalization expansions for business that made your MBA useful and effective for finding a sustainable- if my narrow ass can go from shooting hoops in the trailer park all day to MBA and wokring from home in undies living in much better conditions, anyone can.

I know i come across as a POS lib here, and it's often just for argument,, but I have gotten quite a few friends and family to enroll in college to improve their lives, and some have stuck with it and changed their lot in life.

I'm being serious here - a person on a mission is the most powerful and dangerous thing on earth.  Every one of those leeches has an internal skillset, idea set, and ability to surprise you, if properly motivated.  That's done with positivity, not by calling them names.

Something happens to the layabouts when they hit age 30.   Their metabolism slows.  Their urge to party drops.  Their sex drive and T levels start to slow.  They start to go thin up top.  They need kids now, or their kids are in grade school and providing is getting tough.

Something changes at 30, and a lot of people hit that milestone and turn their shit around.  Yes, its tough to tell a 22 year old to get off their ass and go to school.  But talking to a 28 year old is much easier.

I've gotten my neices/nephews college funds started.  I've gotten both my bro/sis back in school.  I have gotten a few friends back in school or started in school, and helped others set up businesses.  I put people in touch with ppl for jobs too.   WORK is awesome.  WORK gives your life meaning.  WORK gives you a reason to get out of bed.  Even at my brokest time in the trailer park, I was still starting businesses, learning UNIX (yes, it goes back that far), taking cisco cert tests, attending community college, pushing carts at Costo in florida summer heat, and writing songs chasing my rockstar dream.  I never sit still - WORK is awesome

All of the lazy misguided layabouts can be changed eventually, ya just gotta wait em out and keep working on them with positivity and HOPE.

I have done this.  It works.  The results may surprise you.  I'm not saying do this to a total stranger.
