Paul Ryan To Fox News
« on: September 30, 2012, 10:00:59 AM »
: ‘I Don’t Have The Time’ To Explain How We Will Pay For Our Tax Plan

By Adam Peck

For much of the general election, the Romney campaign has avoided any discussion of specifics, especially when it comes to the tax plan that he and Paul Ryan have put forward. On Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace gave Ryan an opportunity to finally talk about the details of his plan to a national audience, how much it will cost and how the Romney administration would pay for it.

Instead, Ryan said he didn’t have time to get into the nuts and bolts of the proposal:

WALLACE: So how much would it cost?

RYAN: It’s revenue neutral…

WALLACE: No no, I’m just talking about cuts. We’ll get to the deductions, but the cut in tax rates.

RYAN: The cut in tax rates is lowering all Americans’ tax rates by 20 percent.

WALLACE: Right, how much does that cost?

RYAN: It’s revenue neutral.
<...>
WALLACE: But I have to point out, you haven’t given me the math.

Ryan: No, but you…well, I don’t have the time. It would take me too long to go through all of the math. But let me say it this way: you can lower tax rates by 20 percent across the board by closing loopholes and still have preferences for the middle class. For things like charitable deductions, for home purchases, for health care. So what we’re saying is, people are going to get lower tax rates.

well that's good enough for me  braaaaaahahahahahahahaha

Weak.

The rates are cut and the tax expenditures are closed.

Pretty simple.

If you have time to comment on refereeing in the NFL, you have time to tell us about the single most important economic plan of our time, which can save us from financial meltdown

A nice way of saying for some people your tax rates will go up, some it will stay the same and for a few it will lower.  What constitutes a loop hole is what needs to be defined.  He isn't talking corporate loop holes, mind you, but mostly middle and lower class tax deductions the conservatives have wanted to eliminate for some time.  That my friend is why he isn't being specific.

Very well thought out response. Please explain Obama's tax policy.

Translation of the above quoted post: I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about, I don't know what the Obama administrations tax policy is and I pretended to know how the Romney/Ryan ticket will approach taxes.

That's a pretty fucking weak answer, especially from someone who, supposedly, is an expert on the subject. Good for Wallace for at least pushing him on this. If you don't think you have enough time, don't hide behind your finger - say that off the bat, give the 2 minute executive summary and say "you can find out the details at our website ... "

But of course in politics today - regardless of party - everything centers on not giving answers. It's all about slogans ("revenue-neutral") and mud-flinging.

I shit all over obama for going on the view and not meeting with foreign leaders.  I posed the question and i think i even pointed out that every pres for 20 years has met with foreign leaders at the UN thing - except obama.  I posed the debate "would romney/right-wing pundits attack obama for meeting with muslim brotherhood" if he met with new leadership from middle east, as he should be doing.

Since you asked, no, obama shouldn't be tweeting.  Remember I said mitt should start the debate by saying "Mr Obama, wipe that grin off your face... there's nothing to smile about.  40 million americans need jobs and people are starving.  You haven't earned the right to smile like that.  You fix things like you were elected to do - and THEN you can smile.

Actually I did shit all over obama for it.  Almost a week ago, remember?  I started a thread pointing it out, getting that debate rolling.

Bush met with a lot of foreign leaders whenever they were in NYC for the UN stuff.  Pakistan, Egypt, and many others, and he did it a lot.

Morning Joe was criticizing Obama for not having a quick 15 minute meeting with foreign leaders - in particular the new president of Egypt.  A major power in that region, brand new leader, and Obama is on the view.

Should obama be meeting with people like him this week?

Hey idiot - he was talking about in terms of the interview.   The math to explain probably would take hours and could not be done in a 5 minute interview.

Yes and republicans have a attention life span of 2 min so they wouldnt get it anyway. Got it.

Remind me again why he didnt use for instance his time on the posium an the convention to explain a little instead of just talking BS? Nobody knows their plan not even themselves

It's perfectly reasonable that a detailed answer can't be given in 5 minutes. But he should have said that outright, given a general overview of the position and closed with "for the details of our plan, check out our website at <whatever>." Instead he weaseled out and spat out the "revenue-neutral" nonsense, which wasn't even answering the question posed to him...

The end result of any "plan" even if they do win will not look like anything being promised or outlined now.

Look at ObamaCare for fucks sake.

No doubt, but that's another topic. Besides, it doesn't mean that they shouldn't even bother answering questions. If it does, then what's the point of having them on TV, giving interviews or telling us their plans?

Besides, I don't believe that "we need to vote for the Bill to see what's in it." We should hold the politicos accountable. If they refuse to tell us what's on the menu, they shouldn't get elected. And if they get elected on promises of filet mignon but deliver chicken nuggets instead, then they shouldn't get reelected.
