Allen West down by 9 points in FL
« on: October 01, 2012, 10:07:16 AM »
He would be a very solid 2016 GOP VP pick.  Hope he stays in politics.

Firebrand Florida Rep. Allen West is losing his reelection fight by a 9-point margin to Democrat Patrick Murphy, according to a poll taken for the Democratic group House Majority PAC.

The survey, taken by the firm Garin-Hart-Yang Research and shared by a source with POLITICO, found Murphy leading West, 52 percent to 43 percent.

There's been a dribble of conflicting polling information coming out of the South Florida race lately: West released a poll last week showing him ahead of Murphy by 9 points, while a different GOP poll found Murphy up by 4 points.

There's reason to take the House Majority PAC poll seriously. Not only is it taken by a gold-plated Democratic pollster, it's also weighted significantly in the GOP direction. The poll sample was composed of 44 percent Republicans and 37 percent Democrats -- a stronger GOP lean than the actual congressional district.

Pelosi?

You mean the crackpot from San Francisco, who (two years ago) boldly proclaimed the Dems would keep the House, only to watch her party get murdered, resulting in her having to cough up the gave to John Boehner?

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- According to a Kimball Political Consulting survey of registered "likely" voters in Florida's 18th Congressional District, Democrat Patrick Murphy has a 4 point lead over Republican Congressman Allen West (49 percent to 45 percent) with 6 percent undecided. The figure is within the survey's 4.8 percent margin of error.

President Obama holds a 7 point lead over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (52 percent to 45 percent) with 3 percent undecided.

The data suggests that Murphy's base support is coming out of Palm Beach County with 58% of the vote while West's base support is in Martin County (52 percent of the vote). St. Lucie County is a toss-up with 47% of voters supporting West and 46% supporting Murphy. Contrary to popular opinion younger voters 18-39 years old are breaking toward the Republican candidates by a wide margin. The pollster, Spencer Kimball, President of Kimball Political Consulting said "West holds a 25 point lead with the younger voters but since the district is made up of older voters he needs to persuade those 50-59 years old to vote for him. Murphy currently carries this age group by 17 points."
