US Foodstamp Usage Rises To New Record High
ZeroHedge ^ | 10/5/2012 | Tyler Durden
Posted on October 5, 2012 7:28:45 PM EDT by mojito

...[T]here was one other, far more important data point released by the government's Department of Agriculture, sufficiently late after the market close to impact no risk assets. That data point of course was foodstamps (or the government's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, aka SNAP), and we are confident that no readers will be surprised to learn that foodstamp usage for both persons and households, has jumped to a new all time record.

At 46,681,833 million the persons hooked on SNAP, the July number crossed the previous record posted a short month before, as the foodstamp curve continues 'plumbing' newer and greater heights each month.

More disturbing is that in the same month, the number of US households reliant on foodstamps rose by a whopping 99,493 to 22,541,744.

Last time I checked, you aren't the arbitrator as to who's black and who isn't.

The simple fact is Obama, by his own standards, didn't get it done. He hasn't turn the economy around. He's racked up more debt than any president in history.

His party got KILLED in the 2010 midterms. Unemployment, which was never supposed to exceed 8% once the stimulus was passed, stayed about 8% for 44 straight months. It's supposed to be 5.5% as of now....it's nowhere near that.

Like most boneheaded liberal negroes, you are of the daft mentality that such failure is cool because the goof, driving the train off the cliff happens to be black. Dr. King said judge by content of character, NOT color of skin.

You don't get a pass for SUCKING at your job, just because you're black (a foreign thought in that thick head of yours).

And with unemployment among black people at HIGHS, not seen in decades, the mere fact that you can't spread your butt cheeks for Obama fast enough exposes you for the empty-headed fool that you are.

Most comical of all is your running from your own thread Wednesday, while Romney slapped Obama silly. Now, after 18 hours or so of stewing, like a good liberal parrot, you are squawking these bogus numbers and chirping the lame excuses for that @$$-whipping Obama just took.

But never let the fact impede your eagerness to slobber over this joke of a president.

Go ahead, genius, explain why Obama blew six trillion, watched his party get destroyed in 2010, got the credit downgraded, and got utterly annihilated by Romney..........all to get unemployment (bogus numbers, notwithstanding) RIGHT BACK TO WHERE IT WAS when he took office and nowhere near where he and his economic team said it would be.

The clock's ticking, Obama Boy!!

Sometimes you have some really good points, then other times like this you shit the bed. Bush's unpaid debts? Are you fucking serious? We can all scream and point the finger at the POTUS for spending, but congress has to approve that money in the first place.

YOU come back to reality. Yes, Obama blew six trillion. The debt was $10 trillion, when Obama took office; it's $16 trillion now. That's the best part about the debate. Every time Obama went for the "blame Bush" card, Romney dragged him right back centerstage, reminded him, "You're the president", and beat him over the head with his record.

Yes, the downgrade is on Obama. When you're the president, the buck stops with you. He's supposed to be able to unify people; HE DID NO SUCH THING. The lion's share of his policies were passed, when his party completely controlled Washington. Once he lost the House, he acted like a sniveling baby. Romney called Obama out, when Obama tried to act as if he's been bipartisan. Romney had to be such, with the bulk of his state legislature and senate being Democrats. Yet, he got stuff done. What's Obama's excuse?

The nut here is YOU, like most other Obama kneepadders, chirping excuse after excuse for Obama's failure, running this country and losing that debate. Now, you're squawking the left's mantra, Oh, Romney lied!!

But, as James Carville stated, citing Lee Trevino, It's not the arrow; it's the Indian! If Romney was doing all this supposed lying, why didn't Obama say anything about it? The man was standing a mere THREE FEET or so from Romney.

Yet, when Obama kept spewing his falsehoods, Romney cut him to pieces, immediately and forcefully.

Explain that, as you keep whimpering about Obama's utter humiliation.

When was it spent? If it was all spent before 2010 then no you can't since the Democrats controlled both houses.

EXACTLY!! As I stated earlier, the lion's share of Obama's policy was passed the first two years, when his party ran the whole show.

agreed...and its really sad to to see guys on here accusing Obama of cooking the books on job numbers..where were these same people when the unemployment rate kept going UP???...no one was saying the numbers were false then.....I hate the stupidity and hypocrisy on this board and the stupid conservatives here who can never admit that they are wrong about anything.....

Correction: WHERE WERE YOU? If you think that this is the only time we've criticized the unemployment numbers, you, Necrosis, and the rest of TK are OUT TO LUNCH.

We've been saying this for MONTHS. In fact, a number of conservatives (Rush Limbaugh, in particular) said nearly A YEAR AGO that somehow the UE numbers would magically get under 8%, just before the election.

The difference here is that people now KNOW those numbers are fishy. You forgot that, just a month ago, when unemployment went from 8.2% to 8.1%, EVEN THE AP ARTICLES cited that such a drop was due mainly to people leaving the workforce. But, don't take my word for it:

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The labor market lost momentum last month as job growth fell to a disappointingly slow pace. The unemployment rate also fell, as more people stopped looking for jobs.

The economy added 96,000 jobs in August, down from 141,000 jobs in July, the Department of Labor said Friday.
Obama battles job crisis
Obama battles job crisis
The U.S. lost 4.3 million jobs in President Obama's first 13 months in office. Track his progress since then.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate fell to 8.1%, from 8.3% in July.

Economists polled by CNNMoney were expecting 120,000 jobs to be added in the month, and the unemployment rate to remain unchanged.

The unemployment rate fell largely because 368,000 people stopped looking for work, many of them young people. Just 63.5% of the working-age population was either employed or actively looking for work -- a 30-year low.

http://money.cnn.com/2012/09/07/news/economy/august-jobs-report/index.html

But, we only have been talking about this issue this past week, when UE supposedly went to 7.8%.  ::)

August added 141,000 jobs, yet unemployment went from 8.2% to 8.1%. So, HOW do you add a mere 114,000 yet drop three-tenths of a point, when last month, 120,000 were needed just to keep the UE number STATIC?

your logic makes absolutely no sense...why would obama cook the books now.....??...why didn't he cook them when the UE was almost 10%???? why let it rise to that if he had the power to cook the books and fudge numbers

As for Rush Limbaugh you have totally lost credibility by quoting a Felon

put the "why" questions aside and ask "HOW" ?

that's what the total idiots on the right fail to grasp

It would be fucking impossible and since they think Obama is totally incompetent they are giving him an unbelievable amount of credence for this kind of conspiracy.

How you ask?  By fudging the data on the household survey...THAT's where the "increase" took place.  How did that jump occur when the u-6 rate is unchanged?  How did so many people become employed when the economy is dragging at a 1.7% annualized growth in GDP.  The numbers are being questioned because other data points contradict them.

I'm curious...did the relaxation of "work" rules for welfare result in a reclassification of what is considered "work" in the household survey?  Are we counting people as "working" when their status is unchanged but the definition of "work" has changed?

Good points and a good post.

U-6 remained unchanged at 14.7%

The gains in "created" jobs were seen most in those that had to take 2nd part time jobs due to economic hardship.

It isn't a good report at all, that much should be clear.

how many people are involved in that survey, compiling the data, checking it etc..
from what I've heard from Republicans who commented on this last weeks it's a few thousand people working on this

how exactly would they "fudge" it and not have anyone involved not know it's been cooked?
