I was born there and haven't been back since 1994.
It's just like any "typical westernized" country with all conveniences and amenities you'd expect to find stateside.
Basically a rule to remember is that a great majority are distrusting and hesitant of strangers, sort of a defense mechanism. You might sense people come off as "cold".
But being American, especially from California you will be treated better almost held in a lime light.
Few Americans I know were there 2 years ago and they told me that they were treated very well.
