Orioles/Yankees
« on: October 09, 2012, 09:10:45 AM »
Let's go Orioles! Tie series heading back to the bronx.

I love how these Yankee fans I talk to were so relieved that they didn't draw Texas in the divisional round. Be careful what you wish for!

Love the hustle by Cano on that RBI single by Reynolds in the 8th. Way to keep the ball in the infield and earn your 14,000,000 salary....Really helped your pitcher out there.  ::)

Fucking Yankees...

Cano's earned every bit of his salary.   Objectively, why wouldn't Yankees fans prefer Baltimore over Texas.  Sure, anything can happen in a three out of five and the O's were definitely hotter at the moment,  but the overall body of work by Texas in the regular season justifies this response.

Either way, Os fans have no reason to talk shit until they win a WS.

Fixed.

And by the way...Cano did give a piss poor effort in trying to keep the Reynolds hit in the infield. It's not like he dove for it or tried to put his body in front of it. Look at the replay again.

If the money's where you're going to gravitate the discussion, I'm not interested.  It's old and boring and been rehashed 1000x.  It doesn't bother me at all.

Disingenuous from a fan with that owner.  How many teams have made the playoffs with lower salaries than the Yankees since 1997? A ton.  The Yankees payroll is the least of the reasons the Orioles have sucked for 15 years.

No worries, I know you're genuinely stoked about watching playoff baseball and I'm happy for you.  FWIW, on a Yankees site I post at, a fan was bitching about the orange towels in the crowd and I told him to fuck off, let them enjoy it, and he's why so many people hate Yankee fans.

I fully admit I wanted Baltimore in the playoffs, and am fully prepared for the ramifications if they win.   This came with the knowledge that we were getting the hottest team in MLB (at one point the yankees won 8 in a row and didn't separate from the Os at all).  It's just that Hamilton/Cruz/Andrus/Darvish etc....concerned me more than Reynolds/Jones/McLouth/Hammels.   Os bullpen is better and I knew that, but was willing to take the risk.

When you compare the two lineups...the batting average and power numbers aern't even close. That's what makes the matchup so intriguing. Our only advantage is our bullpen. Chris Davis is really starting to heat up in this series. That kid is going to be a beast. He's going to flirt with 40hr/120rbi  next season.

Do you think Girardi will drop A-rod down the batting order?

Funny you mention that since I was barking about once I saw it in game one.  No excuse for not having Cano third.  None.   I would also drop Icihiro! down to the bottom.   After Cano, it wouldn't matter much, but he needs to be third just for the reason of getting up more.

I doubt Girardi does it.  I think he's a very good at giving youth a shot, but makes many poor decisions as well.

and for the newer billy beane stat fans his ops was 823 on 2011 and 783 in 2012. to put that into perspective the yankees team ops was 790 so a-fraud actually brings down the team's ops.

We Yankee fans knew that the second ARod contract was going to be tough in the latter years, but not as much as it's been so far.  He did put forth one of hte best post seasons in MLB history in 2009, but since then has been a disappointment.   Fortunately, the contract is front loaded so the Yankees could use the costs of the new stadium to offset it for revenue sharing, but at the rate his playing, he won't be close to earning the 20M per year it ratchets down to.

We just have to hope he rebounds and gets a few more healthy seasons.

Funk - love your posts, but OPS as a "newer Billy Beane stat"?   Maybe a decade ago.  ;D

the one million dollar man comes up big.... RAUL RAUL. i still miss him as a philly fan guy was a class act all the way. {except for the chaw}. on another note i like how the announcer called boone logan the workhorse of the bullpen, i guess because he pitched in 80 games. but then they flashed his total stats up guy pitched 50 and a third innings in those 80 games. since when is that the defintion of a workhorse. ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

He's a lefty specialist who appeared in half the games the Yankees played this year, so I'm not surprised by the IP.

Workhorse is probably accurate by today's standards, since the appearance of the specialized bullpen.  Of course it's nothing compared to the old days.

40 fucking year old Raul comes through in the clutch. When he hit that homer in the ninth with one out, the blood just drained from my fucking face.

Ah man....I hope the Orioles can tie it but I get the feeling that we blew a huge chance to pulll the upset by losing Wednesday night.

Where are the Orioles's bats?? Where is the offense?? Adam Jones needs to stop acting like a deer in the headlights and knuckle down. That mis-played fly ball was a major fuckup. Maybe if he wasn't so worried about looking cool and blowing bubbles, he would have got underneath that fly ball.

GO ORIOLES!

Thats what usually happens the first time around. Almost all of the Orioles are green to playoff pressure (much like the A's) Experience usually wins out.

Hammel and Saunders have starting playoff experience but that appears to be it. Only Mclouth is hitting the ball consistently. If The Orioles win, he would be MVP.

But hey...it's game 5 and anything can happen. The Orioles have to be aggressive against Sabathia. We have some good fastball hitters in Hardy/Jones/Davis/Weiters/Reynolds and CC likes to throw heat.

GO ORIOLES!!!

Yeah dude, it's been a good series no matter what happens.

Both teams stink at the plate, both teams have had excellent pitching and bullpens.
