The USS Barack Obama
« on: October 14, 2012, 11:15:02 AM »
Will our president get his named US Navy ship in the future?  On his watch, OBL, Gaddafi, and Kim Jong Il died..........the degree as to which the president was responsible is a hot topic for debate.....please refer to 3333386 and andreisman for clear examples.  I always thought a successful presidency could be determined if a warship was named after you.

Here are some presidents who have had their names planked(or are under construction), some will surprise you.

A list of the given:

USS George Washington
USS Abraham Lincoln
USS Dwight D. Eisenhower
USS John F. Kennedy
USS Harry Truman
USS Ronald Reagan
USS George H.W. Bush

Surprise entrants:

USS Jimmy Carter (SSN 23) - Very few rave about his presidency, but the man did have have an impressive Naval career in the nuclear engineering field.

USS Gerald Ford (CVN to be built in 2015) - The president who pardoned Tricky Dick, his presidency was uneventful.  Like Carter, he did have an impressive Naval career.

USS Lyndon B. Johnson (DDG to be commissioned in 2018) - did not serve in the military. Lifelong politician.  Controversial president during some of the most tumolteous years in US history.

Presidents who do not or never had a US Navy ship named after them:

USS Bill Clinton - Many laud his presidency, but the "USS Bill Clinton" remains a google joke.

USS George W. Bush - His daddy has one.  This two-termer and enactor of the "War on Terra" does not have a ship named after him

USS Richard Nixon - another google joke.

USS Millard Fillmore - who the fuck is this guy?  He was a president?  A guy named Millard?

Obama will probably be remembered as average on domestic performance but very aggressive on the foreign front.

he did kill a lot of bad guys that past presidents 'tolerated'.

I can GUARANTEE you - if bin laden was alive today, it is ALL mitt romney would be talking about.

Obama will definitely get a ship named after him as most presidents do along with other military vehicles.  They simply go in the order they are elected unless he's impeached or something

people often make the mistake of thinking that correlation equals causation, and thus presidents who reside over periods of prosperity or triumph are often given some of the credit for those successes and are looked at as a great leader...  no matter if the president's policies were actually admirable or not.

The thing with naming ships after Presidents, is the creepiness factor when you hear "Abraham Lincoln arriving!" or "Richard Nixon arriving!"

what obama says is "they(romney) want to go back to the policies that got us into this mess in the first place"

what he is talking about is the fact romney wants to repeal dodd-frank, which increases the goverments oversight and regulatory power in the financial sector and could have prevented the bubble and recession
