I have a buddy, and him and his wife don't have and don't want kids. He told me, "you can have everything, or you can have kids" so they picked no kids. While I will agree that it is somewhat true, I would rather have kids. I have one on the way, and it is a bit frightening though.

If you are ready and all set up then you can go for it..i feel sorry for the 'semi-serious' relationships ending up with an unwanted pregnancy..keeps them back and takes a toll on them. A healthy relationship on the other side can be supportive financialy.. It really comes down to the person youre with.

I don't think it's selfish not to have children. In fact, given the world population, it may be altruistic.

However, I don't see the point in stockpiling resources while others go without.

We are too selfish. Perhaps Jezebelle and I are just hard wired in the brain to be hunter/killer/gatherer rather than child raiser. Both of us have never ever felt any desire whatsoever to have children. We both can`t even look at them without being grossed out. Its probably a strange concept for most to grasp, but I suspect there are many out there like us who feel that way but are just too frightened to say it.

This planet is overpopulated. If a couple doesnt want to have children, more power to them. The freedom you have is great but I see the positives in raising a child. Glad I dont have any during these shitty times.

Sounds like my buddy I spoke of earlier, he told me he has no desire and wished he'd got a vasectomy a long time ago. That said, I have no problem with people not wanting kids. Why would it be a good thing for someone who can't stand children to have them, just to satisfy some made up societal need to produce offspring. I feel if you don't want them, don't have them. If you want them, and can AFFORD them, I think you should have them. I think if you have kids and can't afford them, they should be given up for adoption to someone who wants kids and can't have their own.

I get told by quite a few people that I am being selfish in my decision to not have kids. I never wanted them, my wife has never wanted them and we have a very happy relationship. I don't get the 'selfish' part at all. I chose a woman who shared my attitude. I don't think the world is a better place these days than it was before and I would be pretty concerned about bringing a child into it.

We donate monthly to charity and volunteer every week at the local animal shelter. I hope I'm making a small difference in whatever ways that I can. Doesn't seem to make any difference to those people who think I'm 'selfish' though. Go figure....
