Actually that was one of the most reasonable cops I have ever seen, he hit him back until the guy turtled and then he stopped. Most cops would have fed that guy for 5 minutes.

really don't think so...

1) Beerfests like these are hostile enviroments - drunk people etc.
2) The guy slaps the cop again he pushed him into a corner were he has to loose face (which is hugely dangerous) or act, he acted.
3) He didn't beat him but the other guy of course resisted.

I would not prosecute this cop, for a few seconds after they hit the ground they were still in an altercation. 5 seconds of 'prodding' hard with a stick was not unreasonable IMO

He also tried to grab the stick just after he slapped him.

I disagree with you that he used extreme force. I do not care for LE being in my business, but in that situation, where he is way out numbered, and he needs to gain the upper hand quick, I have no problem with what he did. The guy should not have hit him. If the guy had not struck him, and was just mouthing off and the cop did this, I would have a major problem with it.

Side note, what Octoberfest is that?
