Then you are not a true fan, you are a fan of convenience. Hiphop is not dead, it is alive and well,  but it does not reside on the airwaves of mainstream America. As posted above, hipPop rules the airwaves, dominating top 20 lists. It's all monkeys yellin over club beats.  :(

This.

Hip-pop is the domain of the producer. Convenience rules the airwaves.

Lol...as if talking is a skill.

Anyone can rap.  Benny B just admitted it, it takes a whole TEN tries to mimic to most complex rappers.

Try picking up a guitar and see how many trIes it takes to mimic Eddie Van Halen.

FucKing rap is a joke, and only morons listen to it.

No I didn't.  ???
You can recite the lyrics to a Sam Cooke song after listening to it once or twice. Does that mean you could therefore make a record and become a legendary music artist on that basis?
Yes, learning to play a musical instrument is more difficult than reciting the lyrics of a song. No shit, Sherlock.  ::)
On the moron part, yes I believe you are right.  ;)

If you don't like or can't relate to a certain type of music, that's fine. However, being an arrogant asshole about it is not.

You like Eddie Van Halen...I prefer John Coltrane. I am not going to call you and everyone who likes the sound of a screeching electric guitar a "moron."  C'mon son! That's lame.

You can recite them, but you can't sing them, big difference.

I can rap, it's Childs play. All.I do is make believe I had a lobotomy and I sound exactly like these "musicians"....ha ha HAAAA

And I'm really no big fan of Van Halen, just an example..

Frestyling/battle rapping is hard, it takes yrs...Comin up with/spitting something off the top of your head, especially battling someone is a skill. Quick thinking, knowing metaphors, etc.

Then there is the writing of rhymes. Good lyrical content is hard...you know the good ones are the ones you have to say, "rewind that?", and your like damn...
But today it's watered down, they are not challenged. It's mostly what sounds good in the club. Which translates to catchphrases, and bangin bass.

I personally would rather listen to Yoyo Ma or Esperanza Spalding or Nneka than the majority of hip-hop today.

Hip hop and rap has always been the domain of idiocy and cheesy and low-rent thuggery.

Hope this helps.

this is true of pop music in general of which hip hop is major part.

They are selling you a product.

All hardcore rap fans are being played.

You can bet there is some rich, old white men behind all of it... not JZ or PuffyDaddy (or whatever that moron calls himself today).

Not these days....save for radio garbage.

Most music these days is self financed/produced with no money involved outside touring/swag.

Yesterday, today and tomorrow...music artists are selling you a product. They are not musicians in the entertainment business to not make money and performing purely out of the goodness of their hearts in order to give you a pleasurable experience.

There have always been underground, self-financed music artists. Nothing new under the sun.

No we perform because we love doing it, as do most of the musicians I know. Many pay to play these days. Only an idiot gets into music to make money.

PLEASE do not attempt to lecture on what is the meaning of hip-hop, son.  ::) I have forgotten more about this cultural art form than you will ever begin to know. You read about it...I lived it.

the greatest  8)

Eric B. & Rakim - My Melody

you "lived" hip-hop, huh ?  ;D what does that even mean ? are you saying that your a recording artist ? or that you simply lived in NYC and listened to the music with your friends?  ;D the majority of hip-hop artists have soled drugs in their past and make drug dealing and drug using a big part of their lyrics.. have you done those things? pimping bitches, you done that ? living a life of crime, you done that ? how about the more enlightened side of hip hop, philosophical, moral, spiritual, political preaching .. you able to do any of that ?

my man benny..   you seem like a cool cat.. so keep it cool,,  mcfly..  ;)

Hahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahha...Leave it to Tay-Tay to open his mouth and insert foot or cock in it.  Why don't you continue to educate a n*gga from NY about the finer points of hip-hop and rap.

You're such a nasty, confused little imp.
LOL... you using the term "n*gga" is just plain hilarious..  ;D

it's been sitting in my car's cd player for the last year.   flip it on whenever i get sick of the radio's nonsense.

honestly though i might like it was written better.  i gave you power, take it in blood, if i ruled the world, the message... the production on these tracks is incredible, nothing on illmatic comes close.  but lyrically he's less consistent on it was written, i think.

Hippity Hop is for mental midgets and rap is for those who don't even measure up to that level.  There is musical excellence in black people.  It's called Jazz.
