Is Bruno Mars the best singer of this generation?
« on: October 20, 2012, 09:58:43 PM »
He has a few good songs, nothing on the level/staying power of a michael jackson/elvis, etc.

Tonight on Sat night live, he was doing the vocals to aerosmith, katy perry, louis armstrong, and a few michael jackson.  He sang them better than the originals, I thought.  No video available yet, I'll try to post it.

I'm trying to think of a better pure vocalist in the last 5 or 10 years... I can't think of one.

I never see him, never pay attention.  But hearing him sing Steven Tyle then MJ, both flawlessly... I had to think which of today's stars (most are crap) are better than him.  I can't think of any.

bruno mars is a fucking turd. A prime example of the sorry state of mainstream music these days. I struggle to think of a decent voice out there.

I've got my hopes pinned on Chris Brown to be something close to the next MJ. He has the talent, lacks the alleged paedophilia, but of course does have some issues.

bruno mars. a guy i'd take great pleasure in kerb-stomping.

Guy must be on crack. There's no way a non-drugged sane individual would say something like that.

Exactly, you either have it or you dont, it was apparent from when MJ was just a child he just had it.

I don't give a shit if his voice is "good", all i know is his songs are SHIT. I want to strangle
someone whenever one of his songs comes on on the radio (say at work).

I listen mostly to what is termed "indie" but once in a while there's pretty good stuff
in the "pop" realm.

Like Lana Del Rey.

He's one of the very few singers today that can sing live. The overwhelming majority of singers today lip sync and throw in a minimum of live vocals in a song to confuse the people paying big bucks to see them. The engineering tricks in the studio allow horrible singers to have hits. Have you ever noticed how bad pop stars sound on that singing show Idol? A few have tried to sing live and sounded like hell. Now all the guest stars lip sync.

Mars has a pure clean alto voice that "stars" that lip sync like Usher, Chris Brown and the rest would be completely embarrassed singing live next to him.

I'm still angry from reading this thread earlier today.

Lana del Rey, now there's a mouth i'd never tire of plunging my sausage into.
