Police received a call around 11:12 a.m. about a shooting at a business called U.S. Fire Protection Company, which services fire extinguishers and is located at 8722 Cleta Street.
Minutes later, officers got another call about a shooting at a nearby residence also on Cleta, Downey Police Lt. Dean Milligan said.
Multiple shots were fired at both locations.
A man and a woman died at the business, while the deceased at the residence was a female.
Two more people were transported to local hospitals.
Authorities confirmed that the man who owns the business also owns the residence.
The suspect is a 30-year-old African-American male about 6 feet tall and 230 pounds.He escaped from the crime scene driving a vehicle carjacked from one of the victims, a 2010 2-door Chevy with the license plate 6LEA010.
He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
A 4-year-old boy who was unaccounted for and may have been inside the residence at the time of the shooting was located and is safe.
Police are investigating the incident and have no comment on a possible motive.
