Correct. Oil is a globally traded commodity, reducing taxes on the oil companies here will not change gas prices IMHO, as supply will dictate cost, as it always does. Unless demand goes down (which it won't), gas prices aren't changing.

well, there is some good logic behind that. my only issues would be A) we already give them billions per year in subsidies B) they are already making billions in profit every year and could lower the cost and still be profitable if they wanted to C) burning fossil fuels is killing this planet

C) Is not a valid point.

That's like saying, "If Phil Heath has lots of extra steroids, he will most likely give them to smaller guys." Big guys want to get bigger and rich guys wants to get richer.

Actually, what Falcon said is being misinterpreted. One must go beneath the surface of cumbersome words to see his truth. He said that in exchange for lowering taxes, the oil companies would lower the price. So this is a quid pro quo. The actual agreement that would be codified is that if a tax break of x% were given, a gas price reduction of y% would be required. Simply brilliant.

I think I should leave Phoenix for a while and visit North Carolina. It truly is a Mecca for knowledge...

How about instead of giving the oil companies a tax break, they just take the state tax off the gallon of gas.  I don't know an exact number, but I think the average is .40-.50 cents per gallon depending on what state you're in.  They could pay the tax money from the oil companies to the states.  Guess that's too easy though.

its extremely, EXTREMELY rare for such a thing to happen..

on a side note..
the increasing ocean temperatures cause an increase in tropical storms and hurricanes.. recently a new study found out that the left over CFC aerosol chemicals in the upper atmosphere are being pushed into the Ozone layer by all these new, strong sstorms, and that is causing more solar radiation to enter the atmosphere, and there goes the vicious cycle..      global warming is a very interesting thing and there are many components of what is going are of that same nature ( vicious cycle, exponential increases in factors, etc)..

I understand, but it HAS happened.
And the Earth goes through global warming and cooling trends on a massive scale. Until we know for sure that this is happening at a rate that has never happened before, you'll excuse me if I remain skeptical.

I am in favor of artificially raising the price gas to over $6 gallon.

1. This will force American to buy smaller more fuel efficient cars.
2. Expedite the use of alternative fuels.
3. Speed up the building of high speed railways and better mass transit.

I fully understand that no elected official would publicly support these items but we need to have forward thinking people running the country.

again, this is the reaction that I expect.  And this is why America is in the position that we are in.  $16 Trillion in debt and growing. Yet, no one wants to do what is needed.

Shockwave, what ideas do you propose?

I'm going to continue driving my gas guzzling hot rod because I enjoy it. That was the main point of my post.

Trying to force change down the populous throat before there are viable alternatives is not a good idea IMHO.

Besides, your ideas for reducing the debt are to drive up the cost of fuel?
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot bro?

My ideas on reducing the deficit are to cut spending and increase revenue.

I did not say that was my idea for cutting deficit. For that I would call in Ron Paul since I agree with him on most issues.  Thanks for posting the Ron Paul farewell speech.

Lol, well sounds like it's normal then. Not like we're going to be able to stop it if thats what happened. And if thats true, lol @ us being concerned about affecting global warming at all.

I was wrong about the 99% of life going extinct during the warming period.  its a  lower number. but i dont think humans are able to survive during the warming trend. heres a wikipedia article about it =
