I have been on BP meds for a couple months now. They have turned me into a bloated mess. I retain water worse than a camel. I have an epic moon face. I stopped them for a week and pissed like there was no tomorrow. But my BP rose again.
One issue is blood pooling in your lower half from the dialation. The other day I couldn't wear my regular dress shoes to work because my feet looked like flinstones feet.
I spoke to my doctor and he said the positives outweigh the negative and it's up to me if I can't live with the bloating to stop taking the meds.
Anyone else on these having the same issues?

Have your doc put you on hctz if you're retaining water, but honestly, you shouldn't be. Kidney trouble, maybe? Are you taking pred? or something like zestril or cozaar?

Strange, as most BP meds promote excess fluid excretion. Most of the time patients are started on a diuretic (HCTZ most common) and then if no significant change is noted, they are graduated to an ACE inhibitor and/or possibly a beta blocker. Typically, with both a diuretic and an ACE inhibitor you would see excretion of fluid from the body as opposed to retention. What exact meds are you taking? " 1"

He is treating you for both high BP and Cholesterol? Would have never guessed it Joe, you're in such great shape and lead such an active lifestyle with a well-balanced diet. " 1"

Genetics. The simivastatin is to protect the kidneys.

I use Benicar HCT. Has a mild diuretic. That's odd a BP medicine would cause you to bloat. Bloat almost always increased BP hence the diuretic in many BP medicines. Angiotensin ii receptor blocker type BP medicine's seem to have the least amount of sides.

losartan and amplodipine.
losartan is the generic cozaar, correct? You should not be retaining water on that. IS your bp related to kidney issues?

I think the water retention is due to being hyper sensitive to sodium. I barely eat sodium but I think these meds don't like it and react poorly. at times my feet would swell and I would litteraly laugh at how flinstone like they get. Who the fuck knows. I am not taking any pred or anti-e meds. Still taking test cyp weekly but I was taking it before the meds and didn't hold water. Maybe just a synergy between it all.

Get your bodyfat to 10% or lower and keep it there. Drop your sodium down to around 1000mg's a day. Use dandilion root tea and use 80% cocoa chocolate everyday...Try this before using meds.

Those medications work by relaxing the artery walls and so you have "water, water everywhere"...ask your doctor if he could try substituting a diuretic for one of them...

There is some evidence that statins may cause problems when doing hard resistance exercise. Some individuals have experiences rhabdomyolysis- breakdown of muscle tissue causing kidney problems. NN

Lose weight and up the cardio. Don't use any steroids. They raise blood pressure with their fluid retention. High blood pressure combined with lifting will make your blood pressure go through the roof when you are straining to get that last rep. High blood pressure can also wreck your kidneys.
I'm not a real doctor but I have a bro science honorary doctorate.
