i wouldn't mind leasing but 15k miles won't get you through 6 months in cali, let alone 12.

I live in the OC and mileage has never been a problem

1. At the time of the lease you can specify how many miles you want, from 10K/year up to 30K/year.
If you need higher than that the dealership can usually put together a high-mile lease that meets your needs.

2. If you are in a lease and exceeding your miles you can go back to the dealership and they will adjust your lease to a higher mileage.

I like leasing because it gives the consumer far more flexibility than buying and because the initial cost of entry is cheaper because you don't have to pay all the taxes up front.
You only pay tax on the part of the car you use, and that tax is divided up among your payments.

The bottom line: Is your money working for you, or are you working for your money?

a car is an expense, not an investment...unless you have the money to buy exotic and rare cars cash on the barrel.

i don't care who you "know", the nicer the car the more you are going to pay to drive it....and not get your money back ever

like two people said....fuck European cars, expensive to repair. get a Lexus. I drive a GS 350 and i love it
sorry groink, but im sure a Lexus GS would cost just as much as a comparable class of BMW, Mercedes, and Jaguar.

Just do what I did. Buy a muscle car (this is Getbig) and cut the sleeves off of your small,  American Eagle polo.

Why do you think it's practically impossible to get under the guy's skin?  I'd be pretty unflappable, and perpetually pleasant too, if i knew that myself and the next ten generations of my family are set for life the moment they are born.

I guess that's why I'm going for my third engineering degree.  Yep.. proof right there  ::)

Point is u wouldn't have any of that if your family wasn't well off to began with. It's much easier for someone to go to college, start a business, if your family is already rich..

Groink you miss my point.  I like you so I'm not gonna try to get in an argument with you.

I have never tried to act like I don't have it easy.  Yes I probably don't have to work a day in my life, but I do.  my point is that I want to go much further than what I can if I didn't try, this is why im doing a PhD now, because I want to do more than just "live" off my parents money.

And fyi my wife works a full-time job too!

mercedes suck.  you'll lose money on the lease.  then pay double the cars worth getting it repaired all the damn time.

mercedes don't make you any more important so just go ahead and get a japanese

This.

Do not buy Euro-scheisse. Instead get a nice used Lexus and save some money of the inflated brand new stick price. Ironically because Lexuses take a while to depreciate significantly you might not save much but they are also built like tanks so maintenance costs are very low compared to Euro-scheisse.

Leasing should be called what it is, renting. Guys showing off their leased cars is like a guy saying check out my girlfriend and it's a rented prostitute.

If you are a leasing fan look at how much money you will spend in 12 years leasing cars. If you can't afford  to buy an expensive car outright and you lease them for years you will throw away a lot of money away. Buy a car that that has a great reputation for reliability and keep it for 6 to 10 years.

The worse guy to get car buying advice is a car salesman. Also sources like Consumer reports and Edmunds gives you an idea what you can get the car for but they are really off. I once did 4K cheaper on a car that consumer reports claimed a dealer paid for it. Did the dealer make a profit on me. Hell yes. Dealers do not sell cars for a $100 dollar profit. They would be better off selling cookies door to door. This nonsense that you  bought a car and they made chump change is the biggest con game going. They want you to leave thinking you beat them. They make thousands per car. What happens when they buy in bulk the get a different price depending on how many cars they buy. Car salesmen aren't privy to that information. I learned this from being involved with the government  buying Crown Vics and Dodge Durangos  under what any source on the internet said a dealer pays for the car.  Don't ask to see the tissue invoice because you will be conned by bull shit paper.

Solid post. I can also say they don't make chump change no matter what they tell you. My family owns multiple dealerships and I grew up learning alot about the business. They are normally making an avg of $2k per new sale and used is much higher; 3,500 or so. Used cars is where the most money is made. Dealerships in larger metro areas with alot of overhead make much more.

I feel like leasing a car could be more beneficial than buying under two circumstances:

1.  You don't drive much, and thus won't go over the mileage limit and pay the ridiculous 20 cents per mile over the limit.

2.  If its a short term lease (like 2 years), and you lease a new car then you won't have to deal with too much maintenance costs.... if its a high quality vehicle, then chances are it really won't start showing major problems until 4 or 5 years in so you'd be OK.

Other than that maybe you're better off buying!

I like the BMW three year lease, because they include all maintenance cost, even wind sheild wipers. Soon all the top cars will have this to compete with BMW.

Yep but bmw cars are getting soft and losing comparos left and right, new 3 series losing to the ATS caddy and audi s4,  m5 mixed reviews and lost to S6 and e63 amg. Reg 5 series can't hold a candle to the Audi A6 or even the new lexus gs 350.

Bmws has seen better days they are geared towards luxury now more than the whole driving experience of the past. Either the competition has caught up or they shot themselves in the foot going too soft.

I remember buying my first car: Acura Integra '97.  It wasn't 1997 though.  I was buying it outright for 15K at the time.  Before walking out the dealership, this salesguy with a pesky, 'i know something you don't know' attitude pulled me into his office.  He was like, 'let me ask you, why aren't you financing it instead?'  I was like, show me how i can save money and i will.  He had nothing to say.

I've always got cars in the 10-20K range.  Only sold them when something went very wrong.  Always Japanese.  Acura>Lexus.  The smart money is in buying, not leasing.  I know people that have money and lease.  I also know people who have a lot of money but buy.  I always rather spend 15K on a Luxury or near Luxury car that's four or five years old then a new one that is...less well built.

With the Japanese cars, like Lexus for example, you can find great deals on parts and most mechanics can service them.  It's the Germans that are mad expensive for parts and service.

But fuck if i care if someone thinks leasing is better.  If you're not pulling the far side of 200K with no kids, good luck with that lease.  People look at car differently from a computer, shoes or a TV.  If you don't have the money to pay for it outright, it's out of your league.

Those reviewed are subjective & the quantitative numbers like hp/torque/0-60 are all fairly close

There aren't many reviews on long term reliability on vehicles...you have to go on vehicle specific forums & see what sort of problems vehicles are prone to.

Also even If a new vehicle does have problems...who gives a FCk. It's called factory warranty.
