RIP Dallas' JR Larry Hagman
« on: November 23, 2012, 09:51:31 PM »

R.I.P., Larry Hagman, the actor best known as J.R. Ewing on Dallas, has died. Hagman passed away in a Dallas hospital on Friday afternoon. He was 81.

Hagman was filming season two of TNT's Dallas revival when he died due to complications related to his recent fight with cancer.

"Larry Hagman was a giant, a larger-than-life personality whose iconic performance as J.R. Ewing will endure as one of the most indelible in entertainment history," "Dallas" executive producers Cynthia Cidre and Michael M. Robin said in a statement (which was also attributed to Warner Bros. TV and the show's cast and crew). "He truly loved portraying this globally recognized character, and he leaves a legacy of entertainment, generosity and grace. Everyone at Warner Bros. and in the "Dallas" family is deeply saddened by Larry's passing, and our thoughts are with his family and dear friends during this difficult time."

"All of us at TNT are deeply saddened at the news of Larry Hagman's passing," the cable network said in a statement. "He was a wonderful human being and an extremely gifted actor. We will be forever thankful that a whole new generation of people got to know and appreciate Larry through his performance as J.R. Ewing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time."

“Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most,” Hagman's family said in a statement to the newspaper. “Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time.”

Who can forget the most epic intro of all.

This TV-series shaped my image of the Americans as a young lad.

I read his biography a few years back. He drank constantly all day every day for 30+ years. Thru filming of I dream of Jeannie and all thru Dallas he was constantly 50% inebriated. He started drinking first thing in the morning and stopped drinking last thing at night. Never sober and never drunk, just constantly in the middle ground of slightly altered reality.

Funny story,  his next door neighbour was Burgess Meredeth (Rocky coach and Penguin in 60's Batman) and he was always causing problems. One time he was stopping Larry building an extension to his home.  Larry discussed it with another neighbour, minister Bob Wynn.  Bob apparently said, " Larry we have a prayer session each week and 25 of us get together to read the bible. Maybe we can help with your problem with Burgess thru prayer.   Next week we'll all just pray that old fucker dead".
 ;D ;D ;D

Jack Kerouac

On October 20, 1969, around 11 in the morning, Kerouac was sitting in his favorite chair, drinking whiskey and malt liquor, trying to scribble notes for a book about his father's print shop in Lowell, Mass. He suddenly felt sick to his stomach, which was nothing unusual, and headed for the bathroom. He began to throw up large amounts of blood, and yelled to his wife, "Stella, I'm bleeding." Eventually he was persuaded to go to the hospital and was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony's in St. Petersburg. Blood continued to pour from his mouth and he underwent several transfusions. That evening he underwent surgery in an attempt to tie off all the burst blood vessels, but his damaged liver prevented his blood from clotting. Kerouac died at 5:15 the following morning, October 21, 1969, never having regained consciousness after the operation.
Grave site, Lowell, Massachusetts

His death, at the age of 47, was determined to be due to an internal hemorrhage (bleeding esophageal varices) caused by cirrhosis, the result of a lifetime of heavy drinking, along with complications from an untreated hernia and a bar fight he had been involved in weeks prior to his death.
