Should Derek Anthony get a tranplant

Patients with HIV or AIDS are getting transplants, although this is controversial in medicine due to the increased mortality and morbidity of patients living with AIDS

This begs the question, should DA (HIV+) even be listed for a transplant?

No, unless the organ was donated by friends or family specifically for use by Derek, and they were footing the majority of the bill.

After a certain point a person has to responsible for their actions, it's not like his organs suddenly blew up one day, I'm sure there were signs that things were going haywire that he chose to ignore in this quest to be "big".

Not trying to be mean, just being truthful.

If you have cardiovascular issues...they won't perform a transplant.   Same thing happened with Ray Mentzer....Mike was going to give him a kidney but he had issues with his heart and blood clots...which subsequently killed him.


Now Derek can go overseas and have it performed possibly except the only problem is that he'll more than likely die....his heart is simply not strong enough for a transplant.

Vince hit the nail on the head. Derek would die during a transplant. My neighbor, a lifetime drinker and smoker can't get heart surgery because his lungs are shot.

There is hope though....if Derek can survive until the end of the year, he could get an artificial kidney....its about 10 pounds and it attaches around the waist but it would be like a fanny pack.  All would be needed is one of his stomach blood vessels cut in half and connected to the device.  It would then filter the blood and produce Vitamin D.....it would be a big improvement on the quality of life

The point is not whether his Health would support a transplant, it's whether he should be even eligible given he has AIDS
