It is amazing the toys people have and what their willing to pay for them. All this and the U.S. is in the worst recession since the Great Depression with people whining about paying more in taxes.

I bought a Motorola Android smart phone from Costco for $49 about two years ago when the battery in my previous phone stopped holding a charge. I like some of the features on the droid and others I never use.

My extravagance is maintaining two land lines in addition to having a cell phone. It's silly I know, but I just can't seem to give up phone numbers I've had for 30 years.

I upgrade mine every year as well....every black Friday at Wal-mart they give a $100 dollar store credit with the new phone. Last year it cost me nothing in the end for the SII , because i had to buy other shit anyway, and this year it cost me $49 out of pocket for the SIII.

normally what i do is give my old one to my daughter..it's a year old  high-end phone, i take good care of them and she's a kid after all. But this year I'm keeping my phone and giving her the hot-shit one as a Christmas gift, she just turned 13 and she will enjoy it more than i would, with all the bells and whistles.

Phones are at the point where the new features aren't really necessary anyway. I don't need to rub my phone's ass with another phone's ass and transfer videos. it's gay.

Having to rub actual assess to send texts would make questions to my mother in law about xmas presents for the wife very interesting

Samsung Galaxy S3.  Glass screen not cracked, the LCD (presumably called the digitizer) is cracked

Yes.  It can be a PITA if you don't have good tools.  You want a metal spudger (pry tool).  The plastic ones they send in most kits are pretty useless when you go to pry the old LCD / Digitizer out of the frame.

i buy my phones on www.cowboom.com ... i used prepaid unlimited, so just get a new phone and pop in my sim card.

went from a G2 slider.. loved that keyboard

to a Samsung Infuse, which i unlocked... loved the screen.

finally to a Galaxy S2.. which i f'n love. Huge screen and easy to text with Swype and watch vid's and take pics.

I'll go to a Note2 in a few months when the price drops for used (on cowboom), that's about as big as i will go.

picked up a $3 Hybrid Ballistic case on Amazon for my S2 and fuckin love it. works JUST as well as my co-workers OTTERBOX $30 case on his S2.. and dropped my phone a few times and not a SINGLE mark on the phone.

i always use a phone that is a  generation or 2 behind.

when everyone was getting iphones, I had a pantech.

now everyone has iphone 5, i'm rocking my iphone3.   Cost was $50 cause everyone was getting 4's back then.

I suppose i'll get the iphone 5 at some point, but otterbox (knock on wood) is very good so far!

suck in the dark ages 240 come on dont be cheap, a lot of the apps are not even compatible with iphone 3g

check out Craigslist, there is aways ads with people who will replace it for you for about $40-60 bucks, However it will never be a tight air seal again, you will eventually get dust inside the glass and you would see it on the screen, but its far better then a cracked screen

Check out NON Cellphone stores, like the small mom and pop shops they also fix LCD screens

Found part on ebay for $175.

I talked to Sprint last night and told them that I had asked for the insurance..and since I have had the phone since Thanksgiving, my new bill hasn't arrived yet so I wasn't able to verify the insurance was on there.  PRAYING that works.

Funny thing is that with their insurance, I still would have to pay $150 as a 'deductible'.  So what the fuck is the point??

i pay $10 a month for insurance, if i lose or break my iphone , i pay $150 as well and get a new phone , as apposed to paying $500+ for a band new one out of pocket,

Mutha fucka....

Guy called back and said that there is nothing to be done with insurance.  Soooo I said what is my termination fee?  He said $350.  WTF???  It used to be $200.  He said thats standard for smart phones with my contract.  I asked how long my contract was.  He said two years.  Here's where I went balistic.  The woman I dealt with said my contract would only extend by ONE YEAR.  He said 'You are eligible for an upgrade November 2013'.  Now that was just being an ass in my book.  I was eligible for an upgrade this summer and didn't go with it because newer cell phones aren't the be all end all for me.  Well, he then said I could buy one on ebay or craigslist.  I asked him if he was being a smart ass intentionally or accidentally.  He said neither.  I said "well, i am being serious when I tell you that I am not paying for anything more and I will be dropping both phones off at sprint store tonight and wont be paying any of my bill"

He came back with the "It would be advisable to pay your bill".  Really??  Really??  My last comment was "You can check my account in a month and see how much has been paid"

In the end prob not worth dinging your credit. Buy the screen on ebay and repair it. I've done it on an Iphone 4, wasn't too bad. Granted if the phone is still functional you could still deal with it as is. Also, try calling back another rep at Sprint sometimes you'll get different responses.

Resolution :

for $100 + tax, Sprint is sending me a brand new Galaxy S3.  I can keep my old S3 and do with it what I want.

Checking e-bay for how much people are selling the S3 for.  Both broken and fixed

No doubt you can do this. I am such a creature of habit that I don't want to part with the land lines. Also, no matter which provider we try we are sort of in a dead zone when it comes to cell phone reception. Anyway, the Xfinity cable phone connection is only about $20 a month. We can call anywhere in the U.S. and Canada with no long distance. Calling our son in Germany is really inexpensive as well. I don't think that would be the case calling Europe on a cell phone.

Nice. How'd you get them to do that? When my S2 screen cracked I had to go the insurance route ($100 deductible)
