Are you okay with a 200 round magazine for handguns?
« on: December 23, 2012, 10:21:22 PM »
Assuming it would function well... Do you have any problem with handguns that have the ability to hold 200 rounds?

Should such high-capacity mags be legal for use?

Eh.... super high capacity mags are kind of a weird issue to discuss.

I've never seen the need for them, but then again, there may be people with legitimate uses for them. If so, I'm all ears. Seems like an awful waste of ammunition if the magazine jams or fails.

As guns are phallic in nature that was a very gay post.

200 rounds? The chamber/cartridge would be like four times the size of the rest of the gun.

I was hoping to hear from tony, 33, and other conservatives on this issue.

I was wondering if they feel there should be NO limit to mag capacity size.  Guys, what say you?

Its really a non issue seeing as they dont exist to my knowledge but honestly I dont see a legit issue with it.

The beta mags for AR's hold 100 rounds, the drums that would go onto a pistol would make it so heavy it would be unwieldy.

I just wanted to see if conservatives supported ANY limitations to magazine size.  If there was some cool automated backpack system that put 500 straight rounds thru a handgun as fast as we can pull trigger without reloading- would getbiggers be cool with it being sold to anyone 21+?

I just want to see if the aversion to mag limits is based upon practicality or ideals.

Not against these things.   They are impractical and jam.

I personally don't have a need for 200-round magazines, even if they were practical, but I'm fairly certain that some people would find a use for them. I would oppose outright bans on them, but would not be opposed to some regulations, although I'm not sure how much or how little exactly.

I have similar thoughts on hollow-point or plastic-tipped bullets as well, which I do no believe should be readily available. Sidenote: The United States is a signatory to International Treaties that outright ban the use of hollow points in war; how does that factor in vis-à-vis the Second Amendment in your opinion?

But this is a difficult line to walk, especially since my usual approach is to allow anything I cannot argue is explicitly unconstitutional.

What i'm saying is that anyone who supports a 15 round mag should support suitcase mags or jeep-mounted mags or whatever lol...

not "is it practical", rather, "do you support any kind of limitation on how many bullets ANY gun can carry?

It's a very hard line to draw. What is practical to one person is not practical to the next. I'm with Avxo on this one, I don't think I could say where it should begin or end.

To me, a 30 round mag is no different than a 10 rounder, I'd just have to do a mag change a couple times (which is no big deal, as HH6 has already attested to, we can do a mag change in almost no time, and without ever taking the weapon out of our shoulder) but a drum seems impractical and unwieldy.

To someone else, a 30 round magazine may seem like it has no practical purpose and can only be used to kill people. It's all in the eyes of the beholder. To me, a 200 round drum has no purpose as they are not reliable, are unwieldy, are hard to change, and are generally impractical.

Nonsense. It's silly to assert that if someone supports the availability of 7-seat minivans one also, automatically, supports the availablity of 55-seat buses.

That's a very broad and open-ended question. Do I think laws and/or regulations should be in place to limit the capacity of any gun? Not really. Do I think there are some laws and/or regulations that I could support, such as limiting (not eliminating) the availability of maganizes with unusually large capacities? Perhaps, depending on how those laws and/or regulations were written.

Suddenly I feel like the gun nuts on the board are slightly more reasonable. Maybe it's Christmas spirit.

The drums jam.....I would buy one if the price  was right..use it once and sock it away as a collectable. They have the 60 rnders...again not as reliable and heavy. Unless you plan to use the 60 alot and then adopt the shooting posture that 60rnds would force you to take.....its just not worth it. I don't have alot of attachments on my weapons because I don't like a ton of stuff on my weapon.

I fear the fcking SHIT out of a bad guy with a 30 rounder.

Granted, a bad guy with a 10 rounder is scary as shit... but you know he's gotta reload and you have your chance.

Go up against 30 rounds and you're in a world of trouble.
