The Ka-Ching Dynasty! - China
« on: December 27, 2012, 07:48:30 PM »

As Europe's economy burns, China booms.

The economic transformation of China has been electrifying. But with Europe teetering and the US plodding, can the biggest tiger of all keep on roaring? China's super-rich certainly think they can.

Outside a private Beijing nightclub Porsches, Maseratis and Ferraris compete for space. Inside the club is packed with the children of China's super-rich enjoying a 'palace' themed party. China now has almost a million millionaires, six hundred billionaires, and the numbers keep growing at a staggering rate. As a reporter for the Hurun Report rich-list points out, they are a force to be reckoned with: "certainly we need to be aware of and understand this group." Even more striking is the bravado of China's super-rich, who feel that they can keep going from strength to strength. "I met an entrepreneur last week who said that if all goes to plan, in ten years time his business will be ten times the size it is now". The focus is certainly on quick growth. Current projections say that in ten years time half the world's billionaires will come from China. While there are warnings signs that the economic woes of Europe and the US will hit China, China's super-rich don't seem concerned. For some the hope is that the Chinese market will pick up the slack. For others, who have only known the good times, anything else is unthinkable: "if I have any spare money I buy sports cars."

China now has almost a million millionaires, six hundred billionaires

 ;D ;D
quite a number considering that the only even remotely reliable source, Forbes, gives the following figures:

You've always got interesting stuff on China, Benny.

I've used some of it in my classes, such as the Nail House article you posted. So, thanks.

I'm curious, why do you follow China news? Not a flame, just curious.

Chinese slave labor plea, this time on a toilet seat cover.

Translated by mequals1m1w: "China. Liaoning. WaFangDian. Detention Center. All the work here originates from the Detention Center All people detained here have no human rights The food we eat have ants and flies in it. Expired vegetables (could mean food in general). And there's no oil at all! Also items for sale inside are up to 2-3 times more expensive than the outside"

Sounds like you've done some exhaustive research and come to a hell of a conclusion.

This is kind of rhetorical, but isn't the theory of communism means everybody gets an equal share?  How is there such a wealth gap in a communist country?

A good point, Irongrip.

They are communist in name only.

It's funny to see other Americans getting angry over capitalism in China while praising it in their own country.

I often think that China is growing through the growing pains that America did at one time. Some Chinese people I've talked to me have noticed it as well.

I find it amusing that someone like True Adonis, who was born into the upper rungs of capitalism, if I'm not mistaken, passes such harsh judgment on competing classes. Perhaps if he is true to his word, he would give his wealth to struggling Americans. But even I understand that is tough to 'practice what you preach'.

^When are you coming back to the US, garebear?
Also, one would call the Chinese Cowboy Capitalists, or Copy'em when you See'em.
There  is a growing problem that many US corporations are facing  due them being bound by certain laws, etc (not dealing with dictators, human rights violators) when it comes to dealing with certain nations (ahem African) which the Chinese companies, and to an extent the French ignore.

I don't think I'll be back to live in the US for at least a couple of years.

I have a kid on the way next spring. Going to have to knuckle down here for a bit.

You're right about copyright laws. There is no notion of it here. I recently read an article about some record producer who had four of his songs stolen and sold in stores. His 'lawsuit' resulted in him getting about sixty US dollars.
