I suppose it all depends upon what you want to attract.  Flies like shit, butterflies don't.

Functional muscle is good to have and need not be overbulked or for that matter, ripped to the bone. 

Balance.  It is all about presenting a balanced physique.  The rest is dependent upon other factors such as

As much as I hate to admit it, Alzado probably swung both ways. There were a ton of old times at Gold's that swore that he enjoyed the company of guys sometimes, and that no one said anything because Lyle was genuinely nice guy, and they didn't want to embarrass him. 

Matuszak never had any gay rumors about him, but he did do a Playgirl spread or similar that was hugely collectible with the bears.
