Pledge of Allegiance
« on: January 15, 2013, 02:33:28 PM »
I keep seeing people on facebook complaining that kids don't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance anymore at school.

That's not true is it? ???

Kids can come to appreciate their country via the study of its history and/or the study of comparative politics, a field where one gets to see the relative strength of American political institutions.

A Nazi-like pledging ceremony isn't necessary and in my view is distasteful.

We said the pledge, and sung My Country 'tis of Thee also in my first three years of school, and I was born in the 80's, so I'm not that old.

just a thought as a non-american

isn't pledging allegiance every day kind of a communist trait?

if you are truly free why do you need to make a pledge daily?

why not just live

It's not like you can force the little demons to recite it at gunpoint, but it would be nice if more of them said it out of gratitude.

I don't see the point of being forced to say the pledge of allegiance every morning.  The concept is kind of antithetical to the idea of freedom of choice and smells of government indoctrination. It would also be insincere. And it has nothing to do with education. That being said, I personally have no problem saying the pledge myself.

The Pledge of Allegiance was written by a Socialist, Francis Bellamy, for the 1892 World`s Fair in the Youth`s Companion ( I have an original copy of it).  The original salute was the same as the Nazi salute.  Also, it did not contain any religious references whatsoever and was written not just for the United States.

Here is the text of the original pledge.

I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Ahh, okay...

I don't know if I have an opinion either way.

It's not the Pledge, but the 'anything goes'/'tolerate everything' of today that irritates me.

We all need a good dose of the 1950's.

I don't see a problem with it at all. I'm not a citizen of the world...I'm an American. Had I been a German I would have driven my Panzer across the Eastern front and smoked Russians. Our kids don't learn to love the country enough. They get bullshit versions of history based on leftwing propaganda.....if they get any history at all.

Glad to know that you don`t have a conscience and that you would have been delighted to either take part in the holocaust or support the regime that did.   :-\

I had 13 members of my family take part in WW2....4 died. 12 with the Allies and 1 with the Germans on the Eastern Front. 4 or 5 in Korea..3 in Vietnam..1 in Desert Storm and I've got 4 combat tours. I've never taken pictures dressed as a Nazi there Adam so there's that. I'm pretty pro Israel....beyond that my point was I'd be violently patriotic for any country I was born in. The kids today could care less...a little jingoistic patriotism wouldn't hurt at 8AM Monday through Friday. But you worship Obama so why do you have an issue with it.

Blind Patriotism/Nationalism etc.. is for morons.  By that rationale, Radical Muslims must be the cream of the crop in some peoples minds.

kids wants to say it.  their friends are doing it, and they dont want to stand out.

it's the parents hating on it.  You know the type.. "I dont want my kids being raised by the schools, you can't tell MY KID what  to say or eat".

They also get mad if the school hands their kid an orange to go with the winning Kitkat/Mt Dew combo they packed for lunch. Yes, same kind of parents, even if they're on diff sides of the aisle.  "You're not going to tell my  kid what nation to salute" goes right up there with "you ain't gonne tell me kid he has to have any vitamins in that there lunch"
