hahahahahahahahahahah

on a side note, i used to laugh at people like syntax, since consoles have always had MANY great games you couldn't get on PC.  These days though this seems to be changing.  Over the course of the PS3/360/WII generation, developers have increasingly brought what would have previously been "console only" games to PC on day one.  At this point, lots of people have computers that are at least as powerful as a PS3/360, and anyone who has a "gaming PC" has a machine that is far more powerful.  So as far as this generation is concerned, there's increasingly little reason to need a console in addition to your PC.  You can even just plug in your controller (whether PS3 or 360) and huge monitors (resembling the TVs of yesteryear) are cheap these days.

Of course this will change again in the coming year or two, when the next generation arrives.  People will whine about shelling out 400-600 dollars for a new console, but the machine you get will be far more capable than whatever PC you could build for a similar price, and everything will be as it was.  However, this window where the console has a power advantage will be shorter than ever before, and the PC releases will start coming sooner rather than later.  Even the biggest "console seller" titles will probably make their way to PC.  And by next-next generation... who knows, the console advantage may be gone entirely.  PC "ports" could become available almost universally by day 1.  At this point I might actually lose interest in consoles.

Who knows, really... maybe in the next 10 years or so you'll just buy an "Xbox live" subscription, and all the game-processing will be run "on the cloud", with the video output being streamed back to your TV.  No need to even buy a computer or console.

good post im guessing the time machine worked for you bro nice to have you back jack

These are the rumored specs of the next Xbox 720

Xbox 720 Tech Specs
Three SOCs in one console. Two "Venus" models, and one "Mars".
8GB RAM, with 1GB devoted to operating system.

Mars SOC - System SOC

GPU AMD 8850 spec GPU clocked at 600mhz
4 core CPU is clocked @ 1.8GHz. It is an x86 system.
Audio DSP

2 of Venus SOC - Application SOC

GPU AMD 8900 spec GPU clocked at 800mhz with 10000HD series future tech
4 core CPU is clocked @ 2.5GHz
1.5 Gb of GDDR5 ram on each SOC (total 3GB) clocked @ 1.2Ghz

Xbox 720's "Oban" is a game changer for Microsoft
The name Oban was revealed a couple of months back, and was believed to be the name of the chips onboard the Xbox 720.

According to this insider, however, Oban is actually the name of the blitter inside the next-gen machine.

A blitter is a system built into hardware designed to improve the speed at which data is transferred within the hardware's memory. It is a separate system from the CPU and can run parallel to it, moving large amounts of data relatively quickly.

The Xbox 720 will be a 356-bit system - compared to the PS4's 256-bit system - and is capable of 550GB of data per second.

The insider claims it is designed for raytracing, and with the Oban and the higher bus speed of the GPU this will put it on top in terms of technical prowess.

Xbox 720 is designed for ray tracing technology
Ray tracing is a high-end lighting technology that isn't widely used in games today. Unlike the current dynamic lighting system - which recreates the effects of lighting - ray tracing emulates the science of light.

In other words, more realistic reflections and refractions can be created to create more realistic looking lighting.

The problem is it's a very intensive technology that takes a very long time to render and is primarily used in Pixar films. If the Xbox 720 is as powerful as this suggests, then ray tracing will be more possible with the hardware.

The insider claims that Microsoft has designed the Xbox 720 with ray tracing in mind, however admits that "the hardest part will be for studios to work with ray traced graphics enabled engines."

I think you make some good points, except I disagree about not need a console for this generation and the biggest exlusives - Halo / Gears of War / Uncharted / God of War / MGS will not lauch on PC.

well, i think halo and gow are done for this generation.  or is there another gears game planned?  i don't keep track of games nearly as much as i used to... but yeah, there are a few big games left.  that's why i said "increasingly little" reason, not "no reason".  the only remaining game that i presently know of and consider a "must-buy" for this gen is the new MGS game (and maybe the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance).

I want to play the new DmC game that just came out... what do you know, it's being released on PC a week after consoles, and even my modest laptop can run it fine! :o

btw, I just looked it up... even some of the gears games are out on PC.  the series that practically defined console gaming this generation (along with MW)...

hell, even dark souls got a PC release probably in large part due to fan petitions.  this kind of thing was unthinkable even five years ago.  in 2009 people were thinking demon's souls would never make it to north america...  and in 2012, we have a medium-sized japanese developer bringing the sequel to their "cult hit" to PC because people made a bunch of noise.  times are definitely changing!

There are at least two more Halo games definitely confirmed.

I'm very excited for the Xbox 720 (or whatever they plan to call it), I think I may give my old Xbox 360 to my brother when the new one comes out.

A year and a half ago I scoured the earth for a brand new Nintendo Game cube (which wasn't cheap) for my brother, he is mentally handicapped but he loves gaming and I wanted to get him something simple, he loves it, but turns out he can kick my ass in just about any game you throw at him and loves getting on my Xbox whenever he comes to visit, so I think he's earned it loll

Lol its funny, I had a game saved, (GoldenEye Reloaded) then my brother comes over and shits on all my stats, progressing me even further in the game, I was like, how the fuck did he do that!  My dad got him a PSP and he absolutely loved it, hopefully he'll be equally as happy when he gets my 360!

Microsoft is clearly the best (I have both) Xbox Live is 1000x better then Playstion. The only thing Playstation had was the Blueray player, and some good exclusives.

I like the PS3 as far as visuals myself... but I agree, Xbox Live is the absolute BEST online service currently... If you like online multiplayer, you like Xbox live... Xbox live is my one reason to have an Xbox... Much like you, I have them both... I also have a Wii and a high end gaming PC.

I actually love my single player stuff on PC if it's available... if it's not, I go PS3... if it's something I will play online, I get it for the Xbox.

Does either one of them selling more than the other make you any money?

It doesn't to me, and I'm in the biz.

We just sell more copies of one thing over another... cost is the same.

Tu,

It is obvious that the PS3 and XBox 360 are very simiilar in capabilities. Games optimized for both look very similar. Some look better on the PS3 and some on the XB360. The Wii from the beginning was a novelty that sold beyond Nintendo's expectations. What do you think of the WiiU. If you had to go out on a limb, which of the next gen consoles will have the superior firepower or graphics ability? Personally, I will get each for the exclusives, but inquiring minds want to know  ;D.

Honestly, I always say that the one that comes out LAST has the most power (Unless it's Nintendo)... The Wii U is better than the current PS or Xbox, but not by some crazy leaps and bounds.

I will own all of them as well.

Nintendo always does interesting fun things with their controllers and it usually works.

I expect the PS4 or whatever it is to be called will be the most powerful, but remember, power doesn't always equate to the best games... not even the best looking.

Some people are just better at making their hardware do amazing things.

Next gen consoles will all be using current PC hardware actually... Yes.

The current High End PC and the Next Gen Consoles will be very comparable... PCs will always evolve at a faster clip than consoles though, so your console that lasts 5 years, towards the middle of the cycle will always be underpowered compared to a nice high end pc of the day.

Unfortunately, that's how it goes.

They should just make modular upgrades during the life cycle of a console to add more ram, cpu power, graphics power.  Then again, it would just be a full blown PC at that point.

Exactly, and at that point, you're talking about much more expensive machines. It's not feasible for a person to go around buying parts to upgrade their consoles all of the time... Part of the thing about consoles is that we know when we make something for it, it works.

It's tougher to do PCs because everyones parts are not the same... We try to make a minimum spec, but then we have "recommended spec" and they all have to be tested... we test some of the more random things ever.
