I think the fact that he clocked in at 9am and left at 5pm working in the software industry would've been the easy red flag.

My buddy read a book about five years ago, called the 4 hour work week, and that's what it was about. He joked he was going to outsource his job to an Indian.

He found a high-quality and affordable resource. I would have given him a bonus.

Yep, and Verizon hasn't revealed what kind of action they took. They probably promoted him to an upper-level management position, which will be followed by numerous layoffs of current software personnel in favor of using the Chinese team for literally "a fifth" of the cost. Bob will be the company liason.

He's just a straight shooter with upper management written all over him.

Yeah. They had to "bust" him, but this is actually the kind of operation they're looking for.

Giving his security VPN token to an outsourcing partner in china is about the dumbest thing you can do, never mind that he worked for a security company.

A friend of mine does that. He gets about $150k a year as a video game developer. He pays some guy $15k in the czeck republic to do a lot of his work. This guy eventually got a $250k bonus for his work. He now develops games for iphones and makes about another $5k a month form it

well... clever in one way..
.. but pretty short term thinking. even if he got away with it. you won't be improving skills and advancing at your career letting someone else do it for you!

lmao I like these parts A typical ‘work day’ for Bob looked like this: 9:00 a.m. – Arrive and surf Reddit for a couple of hours. Watch cat videos 11:30 a.m. – Take lunch 1:00 p.m. – Ebay time. 2:00 – ish p.m Facebook updates – LinkedIn 4:30 p.m. – End of day update e-mail to management.
5:00 p.m. – Go home
Verizon notes that Bob had excellent performance reviews and was considered “the best developer in the building.”

True, but if he stays with Verizon, they may reward his "creativity" by adopting his methods into another shrewd move to reduce costs while increasing profit and quality, and place him at the helm.
