The vast majority of asian film stars and models are mixed with european/caucasians.  As a culture, having white skin signifies that you are not of the working class, outside working like a farmer in the field.  Much like it was for Europeans several hundred years ago (notice how pale skinned white people were in paintings from the victorian age).  It's a pretty common theme throughout all of Asia, from China to Indonesia.  You see all kinds of skin whitening commercials and products in stores everywhere you go.
