Just in case the American government tries to become tyrannical and take over the USA. We all know those few extended clips would work very well against:

Some would argue that the you wouldn't need to worry as much about a Military vs. Civilian battle, and that if it came down to it, it might not be as lop-sided as you think.

The theory goes the the military is made up from a good proportion of regular gun owners, and if there ever was to be a civil war over such things the military would be thrown into shambles from the amount of deserters, mutinies,  etc.... that would happen if a tyranny ever tried to take over the US.

I'm not sure if I believe that, but it is an interesting question.

I'm waiting for the hysteria to die down, not playing that game. I've seen ammo I bought last year selling for 3 times what I paid.

Yes SFpleasetakemyrights1900 ....I'm sure the American military is just going to roll out and trample their own families homes.  ::)

Who said anything about their own families home? If the government did try to take over civilian life, more than likely people in the military and their families would be spared.

Thus, if they wanted to take away civilian life, they would just need to roll your house over with a tank and your guns would not do shit.

SFpleasetakemyrights1900 ....I loled!

I agree that they should not take away your rights. I never said they should. I was poking fun at the reason for wanting guns, which is to protect oneself just in case the american government tries to take over civilian life. Its a pretty weak argument, considering the average gun will not do much damage against the weaponry of the american military.

I am more inclined to believe that the armed forces would do as told. Hardly doubt enough of them would turn their backs on the American government and fight for the average civilian.

And like I said, gun owners are using the argument that they need to protect themselves from the tyrannical government. If one wants to own a gun, I am fine with that. But come up with a better argument. Your guns will mean absolutely nothing against the weaponry owned by the American government.

SF, I think the armed forces would collapse, or at least divide like in the civil war. And, think about armed civilians fighting on their own soil, and the guerrilla tactics that would be used, not to mention the influx of foreign aid from countries that hate America, much like we do in the Middle East.

The military have turned their guns on fellow Americans.  It's called the Civil War and has more associated casualties then all other American wars put together.
Look up Shea's Rebellion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shays'_Rebellion This was led by a hero of the American Revolution!
Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonus_Army  the WW1 veterans who were attacked in D.C for wanting their just payment for service, Japanese Americans rounded up in WW2,
Troops brought in to put down Americans trying to unionize: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_union_busting_in_the_United_States
Infiltration of the anti-war movements by the FBI, troops in Ohio State killing Americans, National Guard at the 68 Democratic convention.

There may be good people currently serving who will do right thing but anyone who thinks the Military will just disband when ordered to contain America's disintegration is fooling themselves.

Yes, similar to your delusional world in that you believe the government is going to take over civilian life and you need your gun to protect yourself from a tank.  :-\ :-\

Yes, this may be the case. Its hard to tell. Either way, civilians would not stand a chance. All it would take is to drop a few bombs to wipe out a whole area.

They wouldn't need a tank.

They aren't going to waste any time if you even fucking aim a gun at them.  The govt is going to fire and ask questions later.

The idea that citizens are going to fight against tyranny is fucking laughable.

What isn't laughable is that if all of the fucking conservatives had gotten off their asses and voted for Romney this shit wouldn't be happening.

No, don't vote for Romney.  He isn't conservative enough......

Obama ought to take everyone's fucking guns away just for being stupid enough and trusting him to let his ass have a second 4 fucking years.

The men and women of the United States armed forces are sworn to defend and protect the Constitution of the USA and not to violate it. I don't know where you are getting your nutcase conspiracy ideas that the military can be turned against the civilian population at the flick of a switch.

Besides...where do you think B2 airbases are located??? You really think they are that well guarded?  Do you know what the range of an M1A2 abrams main battle tank is???

Seriously, some of you people know even less about military weapons, capabilities, tactics and strategies then you know about guns, semi-automatic rifles and "assault weapons" , hahaha.

I suggest you do some research about the first chechen war and read about how irregular militia armed with ak's and rpgs humiliated the vastly technologically superior Russian army.

In a functioning free market the cost of goods goes down over time as competition and technological innovation increase.  This benefits the consumer.  In a command economy (what the U.S has had since the Roosevelt presidency) central planning dictates the prices of goods.  This happens either overtly by the use of tarrifs and quotas or covertly by legislating what goods and services can be sold.  In all instances of government interference the cost of goods rise because of limits or because the black market has to fill the void.

Government is force.

I guess we'll never know.  The same private industries that talk up a blue streak about the splendours of free market capitalism spend plenty of cash buying legislation and legislators to tilt the table, by means of government intervention, in their favor.  Energy, insurance/health, banking, pharma/food/FDA, etc.

Money talks.

Ever since Obomba got appointed I've been telling my fellow gun owners:  Buy ammo now!... it's going to be worth more than gold someday.  Guess what?... someday is right around the corner.

I have about 15k rounds of various calibers.

I'm rich  ;D

I agree that the mania will die down somewhat, but not to the level of complacency there was before President Commie got into office.

I don't know where you guys get this from.  He's the best friend that entrenched business interests ever had.

Granted, if he was telling the truth in his campaign promises or in any of his 'come together as a nation' nonsense.  Turns out he's a total bullshitter though.  In action he's right of Reagan ffs.  Really can't see what you're complaining about.

Those of us who expected him to carry though on at least one promise have something to complain about.  You guys should be howling with laughter.  President Jive Turkey done fooled us but good.

LOL so we should just give up and take whatever the govt says up the ass?

sorry big man, some ppl would rather die than become what you already are.

The govt doesnt have our best interest in mind and never will. They are out to protect their best interest and so long as our interest coincide with theirs you can continue to fool yourself into thinking they will take care of you. The fact is the minute their interests diverge from yours they will bend you over faster than they will take your guns away.

You think they will just pick and choose which houses to bomb? LMFAO

and by the way its not just the govt we need to protect ourselves from. Remember the riots in LA, where were those tanks and bombs then?

Plenty of reasons to need guns and its not just hunting and to keep the govt in check

That is my point. I agree that guns are used for other practical reasons. My statement was not to suggest that guns dont serve a purpose, but that the argument that we need guns to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government is laughable.

not at all, this is the same idiotic argument piers whats his face made and it carries no weight.

The idea that we wouldnt be able to compete against a govt with guns is just idiotic. First you assert that they would spare those that comply which would open the door to a guerilla style fight where they dont know who the enemy is from a friendly civilian.

I point to vietnam and the current situations in the middle east. The idiocy that youre spouting has been disproven time and time again and is being disproven NOW!!!

In vietnam the viet cong were out numbered and out gunned. Yet there were able to fight a war of attrition using the primitive weapons they had by using tactics.

Same is going on in the middle east right now...

stop and think about it for a 2 mins, shut up and think about it!!!

Now that youre back, thats assuming the military goes along with destroying their homes and killing fellow citizens, neighbors, FAMILY MEMBERS!!!!

LOL its not just a discussion its an idiotic argument that has been disproven time and time again and is being disproven NOW!!!

yet idiots still want to stand on it as reasoning for disarming populations. Even if you dont want to disarm the public youre arguing an IGNORANT and IDIOTIC point of those that do.

Hopefully you now understand how stupid youve been and will refrain from parroting this stupidity moving forward.
