great underrated player was the national league's ted williams. amazingly stan had 1815 hits at home and 1815 hits on the road for 3630 hits.

check out 1948 led league in every offensive category but homers missed by one. he also missed one year to the military which would have probably added between 180-230 hits to his career total. quiet unassuming guy who just happened to be one of games greatest hitters. actually started as a pitcher in minors but early injury caused him to change positions.
