The government shouldn't be able to fucking tax everything (stocks, 401k, etc...) they should only be able to take Federal and sales tax. They are like a fucking racket. Make mega millions off of the lotto, then turn around and tax almost half of whomever wants a lump sum settlement. Bullshit.

I had almost 1,000 shares of Netflix stock and dumped them all last Thursday when their stock was through the roof. Life is good.
Well done chum! How long did you hold them for? I pocketed $40k thanks to the xmas rally, but the government here in AU will tax 45% of that profit as its all treated as income.

Purge, you should invest in Vince Goodrums website, Caliber Fitness.
Last I checked, its 3 cents a share.
With 187K, you can buy 6233333.33333 shares.

PURGE, 20% is about right but I've been out of the investment business a good long time and would like to send you the following info and ask you if it proves to be correct.
I'm sure you will have a tax expert do your taxes but if you do your own 1040, make sure you deduct your original investment, plus the other appropriate deductions that the Feds allow.
And ask about the possibility of 'depreciation' which I no longer know nothing about.
In 2008–2012, the tax rate on qualified dividends and long term capital gains is 0% for those in the 10% and 15% income tax brackets. After 2012, dividends will be taxed at the taxpayer's ordinary income tax rate, regardless of his or her tax bracket. After 2012, the long-term capital gains tax rate will be 20% (10% for taxpayers in the 15% tax bracket). After 2012, the qualified five-year 18% capital gains rate (8% for taxpayers in the 15% tax bracket) will be reinstated.

Congrats.
I knew I fucked up when I didn't buy it at 62 a share. My very conservative father laughed when I said to buy some and told me it was headed for rough times, I told him repeatedly it would bounce back quickly I thought. Now I'm wishing I had sold some other stocks to buy it then.. You win some, you lose some

I own it. Sold a bunch of it at 480 something in the aftermarket after the earnings call. i have made several thousand in actual gains -- also left several thousand on the table because i didn't sell at 700. was drinking the 1000 kool-aid i guess.

$700 was the high. Samsung is eating their lunch. AAPL has nothing new in their product pipeline. All the innovation died when Steve Jobs did. Earnings are on the way down.

I don't know - I suspect that Apple has one more thing up their sleeve; something that they were close to perfecting before Jobs died. I think that they're likely to remain at the top in the near term, even with little innovation, but they will fizzle out unless they can figure out how to capture that je ne sais quoi and the drive for perfection that Steve Jobs had. I doubt it will happen.
