Most martial arts are bunk unless you are fighting someone who has no idea how to fight. IMO the best things to learn are ground fighting and combine that with boxing and I would also learn some judo for takedowns.

Agreed, throw in a healthy dose of cardio, and your good to go, I think wrestling comes naturally to people, so does JJ in a way, even the simple act of bending someone's fingers in the wrong direction is in the spirit of JJ, and most people understand the principle behind it, just move parts of the body in ways they are not supposed too.  All this is OK if it is one on one, the one thing that is harder to do though, is fight multiple attackers, I think even the most skilled of fighters would be concerned in a situation when there was 3 or more attackers.

agree with this post, i think actually fighting comes naturally to people or just from having alot o fights on the first place.

I think the best way to prepare your self for a fight is the do cardio and train on a boxing bag a few times a week, learn to do some kicks i guess, but mostly learn to guard your self with your legs. Im my opinion what ins fights in the ability to actually fight, cardio and then size.

Best thing to do however is avoid fights altogether, since you never know who you are up against.

Pointless to learn hand to hand combat....just pull out a gun, a knife, or break a beer bottle in half...Real-life fights do not mimic what happens on a padded mat in a controlled situation.
