A Chinese man whose €100,000 dog died while having a facelift is suing the animal clinic tasked with making the animal more beautiful to other breeders.
By Susie Day The Tibetan mastiff, the world’s most expensive breed and a status symbol in China, died 20 minutes into the €160 plastic surgery procedure.
The owner, identified as Mr Yu, paid the money to the Beijing animal hospital in November but his beloved dog suffered a heart attack during surgery.
Mr Yu wants €104,000 in compensation — the price he claims to have paid for the dog.
He has been roundly criticised by animal rights activists for the surgery.
“It’s unfair. It only meets the aesthetic desire for the owner, completely ignoring the rights and interests of the dog,” said Qin Xiaona, the head of Beijing’s Capital Animal Welfare Association.
