I agree. With the drugs they have out on the market, living with HIV is no longer a death sentence. Hep C is another story all together. Lol, was the 'gay world' surprised?

Surprisingly enough, the bulk of people living with HIV reside in Sub-Sahara Africa (over 69%), with southeast asia coming in second place with another 12% of the HIV infected population. North America (which consists of 23 countries), on the other hand, only has 1.4% of their population infected with the virus. Reports even show that more than half of the world's HIV-infected population consists of women, particularly African American women in the USA are leading infection rates. So does it truly come as a surprise that Boy George, being gay, caught HIV? No, that can happen to anyone who practices unprotected sex. Point is that today, the pendulum has swung and HIV infection is not the GAY-disease that is solely or even mainly carried by Gay men. Surprisingly no, the USA's leading HIV group (as in the raw number of new infections from the last 2-3 years) is African American women, not gays. I am not proud of gays having led the way with regards to HIV in the 80's and early 90's, but now gays have become smarter in their ways and approach sex with a certain level of precaution (excluding the bug chasers, random weirdos and drug addicts). Also, don't get me wrong, I am not here to pretend to even want to defend the fuckups within the gay community, but the research established by the WHO and different AIDS organizations have verified that HIV is no longer the GAY disease it once was. While the numbers are still significant in the gay community, other groups have taken the helm and have spearheaded it's aggressive expansion. " 1" P.S. See the problem with some gay men is that they don't know how to practice monogamy and instead sleep around. Sleeping around wouldn't be such a big deal, if those same cheaters learned the value of wrapping their sausage. |
