He is not a subject of the Saudi King? ? A gesture of good will and friendliness. Why read too much into it? It would have been a bigger story if he didn't show said kindness.

The US will never be energy-independent. There's no profit in it. Exporting US oil, while importing other countries' oil, will make more money in this ridiculous economic system. But yes, it is also for having a strong ME presence. Because that will be the oil that the US will keep importing while exporting its own oil.

Good management is all about looking and planing for the future, who knows whats going to happen when the US and coalition forces move out of Afghanistan - Israel seems to be hells bend to get in a good old clusterfuck with Iran with the potential to go super nova, Syria is undecided and who knows what effect this could have on the neighboring countries like turkey and subsequently NATO. In the future America might not get any oil from the fucking A-Rabs but might have to go as far as to quench their energy thirst via local sources.

You are missing the long-term objective. Why do you think the US supports Israel in everything? It's because an unstable ME means higher oil prices. Which ensures that expensive US-produced oil can be sold on the open market at a profit. So yes, the US will always get oil from the ME. They will continue to sow discord there, but only just enough to keep OPEC divided enough, and keep prices high enough.

Turkey has already made it's choice, it has become a western country. That might seem odd with Erdogan and AKP being "islamists" albeit turkish islamists which make them probably less zealous religiously than a Saoudi atheist. It will stay clear of any trouble; look at the incident with Israël, thing got quickly settled down. The Israel/iran thing is a whole other problem: Netanyahu has used fear mongering for political reasons mainly and also because the Israeli society has trouble right now amidst a lot of internal divisions. Palestinians are no longer a good enough source of fear. Ironically, Iran is doing the exact same thing. There's no way Iran will attack Israel but those speeches enable them to switch the focus on other things then the social and economical problems the Iranian society is living right now. Saoudi Arabians would love to see Israel attacking Iran as they have the most to fear in case Iran gets it's bomb. On the other side, Israel is plenty happy with the stupidity of Arab countries who are unable to get along, much less to put pressure on Israel to solve the Palestinian problem (let's just remember how Jordan has treated Palestinians and what would happen there if there was a viable Palestinian state).

Excellent point. Israeli government is a bunch of hypocritical dicks for annexing Palestine. But as soon as Palestine would gain independence, Jordan would probably invade and annex it.

A gesture of good will and friendliness. Why read too much into it? A handshake would've sufficed. Same thing with Nixon bowing slightly to Mao. Our leaders need to stand upright more often--in all instances.

LOL. pride and arrogance get you no where in this world. In today's political world it is more beneficial to appear as a servant when public opinions dictates policy. The USA is not a very liked nation among countries, this humble gesture goes along.
