Child Support is never about what a woman "needs" to support her child, it's about maintaining a lifestyle. The same lifestyle as if the parents were living together. If the Father was rolling in the dough when the child was born, in the eyes of the Courts, that child is entitled to reap the benefits of those riches until the child is no longer a minor, or parental rights are terminated through adoption or other legal process, or the minor child is declared "emancipated" by a court - that is, declared an adult earlier than normal because of the ability to be self-supporting. There are a few different models for calculating child support, and they vary from State to State. In Canada, they use Child Support tables to calculate how much a parent pays. Bottom line: The more you earn, the more you pay. The more kids you Father, the more you pay.
