30 for 30: Broke
« on: March 07, 2013, 06:41:22 AM »
Anyone seen this?

40% of football players go broke after 5 yrs of retirement, 60% of NBA'ers are broke after 5 yrs. Funny how one guy says race has nothing to do with it but yet Andre Rison talks about the bling and to my knowledge certain races wear bling and others don't..

Go from having a little money to a lot with no idea how to handle the money or plan for the future, not to mention people picking your pockets on all sides, and you go broke quickly.

I understand your point, I do, but come on, it's really not rocket science to save for the future. Just put aside a hefty percentage in a savings account and never touch it. How hard is that.

I totally agree.  In the end people are responsible for their own actions.  When it comes to my own finances,  I'm a budget hawk.

It blows my mind when I hear these NBA players who go broke, unless they think it's cool to go broke they must be retards outside their talent for sport.

The hardest thing is to get a capital from the start which they have, then it's is more of a downhill to manage year after year. Oh well,, guess I'm preaching to the choir..  :)

Funny how no hockey players were listed aside from Yagr. Granted they get paid the leaset but can still make 10-50 million over a lifetime.

At FSU there is actually a class for the Athletes about investing your money and that it can all end in the blink of an eye. WHat's more interesting is the athletes that made millions and became criminals i:e Lenny Dykstra

Players have their agent, 6%, financial advisor, 2%, accountant 2% (yes they are the same but athletes don't realize this), stock broker 2% and this shi& all adds up.

Hell look at Nicholas Cage, when he was hot, his car payments alone were like $50K a month.....

2%?  I think you're underestimating, especially if there is a particular kind of person involved ;)

Most people think that what they're earning now is the least amount they're going to continue to earn forever and they spend accordingly.
