As christianity is in a major crisis anyway, why don't they ever elect a modern, cool, younger pope for a change, dude in his 40s or something like that. Would def attract more people again.
that is an interesting point, and woudl be the obvious choice is the goal of the Church was to be a popular business with lots of new customers.
If that was 100% their goal, then yes, they'd get some young handsome guy with great hair and a smile to "sell" or promote the Church.
They still base it on experience, wisdom, etc, it would seem, as most people chosen have 30 to 50 years of service under their belts. They put in a 40-year old handsome guy and he might not be able to lead like someone who is fmailiar with the last few decades of inter-church politics, experiences, etc.
So I guess what I'm saying is, choosing an old bald guy tells me they care more about preserving the church than about promoting the church, if that makes sense? Maybe they aren't that worried about 'recruiting' the i-phone using people who are okay with a lot of things.
