Still though gravity defines this as 700 pounds.  Most people's wrists would snap under that weight.

Well, true, if you want to put it that way.  However look at it like this.  Most shirted lifters when they bring the bar down it slows down to a trickle as they get about 2-3 inches away from their chest and they often have to actually pull down on the bar to get it to touch.  Hell I've seen it before on a few occasions where they can't get it touch no matter what they do and they bomb out.  That means at that very point the shirt is literally supporting the full weight of the bar.  Sure they still need to balance it but think about how much pressure the shirt is putting on the bar; especially at the lowest part of the lift.

strong obese farmboy build, all BBQ and anadrol milkshakes

but yeah, you can get 200+ out of even a single ply modern shirt and it doesnt require that much to learn it.

All of you talking shit on this kid....feel free, right now to use whatever gear or equipment you want. Go do a 700lbs bench (today) and post the video. And oh, BTW, if your 17, 18, 20, it would be more impressive. I will be waiting. idiots

Using a shirt requires practice. I knew a kid who had over 100lbs against a kid in raw benching at their previous meet, they did a shirted meet and the kid came back and beat him by 75lbs. Its a fucking scam. All suited lifting is. It is for jokers. It's like bodybuilding with implants.

doesnt require than much practice tbh, I got 600 off a 2 board the first time I used my single ply and I got 675 a couple of weeks later. I wasn't even close to being as heavy and androgen bloated as this kid either.

OTH's seen a vid of me doing a shitty gym lift with 715 in my single ply

shirts and suits are retarded. but raw PLing is super dangerous so it's not like one is better than the other

I disagree on that part.  I think equipped powerlifting is much more dangerous.  Also I don't really see too many people here talking shit about the kid, it's just that there is a TREMENDOUS difference since he is using a multi-ply shirt.  A fact that the article doesn't even acknowledge.

That's putting it mildly.  The video I saw was so horrible you could hardly make it out and it looked like he definitely had spotter help.

That was my problem with it, the boy's holier than thou attitude, and the lack of clarification in that the article. Strong kid, but not the almost World beater they'd have you believe.

On the Larry Allen lift, it use to be hard to find a clear copy, but a few have been put up in the last few months -

Dang, some of y'all can't stand people being stronger or bigger than you.   That kid is stronger than me on bench and I'm just fine with that LOL.   Quite trying to "reason away" his bench.

Why if the reasons work? You lose a sense of the sport and its history when you allow dodgy articles like that one a pass.

Yes, many a hater on this board.  However with that being said, there are some that actually compete and do rather well in powerlifting here too.  Good raw lifters get particularly irked when people use a multi-ply bench shirt and they see an article written that doesn't even mention that fact and then tries to compare the kid to someone else who didn't even come close to a 700 bench either "major spotter help."  :).

Bottom line, hands on the bar=no lift.  Period.  Even with 635 he was getting some help.  Anyone who knows powerlifting knows hands on the bar I don't care who you are is no good.
