In June of 2011, Gerry decided to test his body even further by signing up for a truly amazing challenge. Along with 19 other hopefuls Gerry arrived at the start line of the DECA Enduroman challenge, an event that required competitors to complete an ironman distance triathlon not just once, but every day for 10 consecutive days. Each day competitors had to swim 3.8km, cycle 190 km and run a full marathon of 42.2 km.
At 5 to midnight on June 12th 2011 a wet, fatigued, muddy but smiling Gerry crossed the finish line for the last time. Completing a staggering average of 16 hours of endurance per day, over the previous 10 days Gerry had swam 38km’s, cycled 1,800km’s and ran 420km’s. Of the 20 people who started, only 3 finished. Gerry finished first by over 22 hours.
