Rich Gaspari - Lifetime Achievement Award Video
« on: March 30, 2013, 08:14:10 AM »

Very cool and well done video of Rich Gaspari, as people talk about Rich receiving his award.

Rich Gaspari, winner of the first ever Arnold Classic in 1989 was awarded with the 2013 Arnold Schwarzenegger Lifetime Achievement Award at the 25th Anniversary of the event in Columbus, OH.

Hmm.. first ever winner of the Arnold Classic contest. Still around 25+ years later with a successful line of supplements, and doing well.  In the stigmatism that all bodybuilder fare poorly, he is one that has done very well.  In the bodybuilding industry, he achieved well.  Congrats.

Hi, Ron,

Minor issue.

I saw that you described this year's AC as celebrating its 25th anniversay. You've probably seen this description all over the place, and took it upon good faith. For instance, venues like musculardevelopment.com, flexonline, bodybuilding.com, and npcnewsonline (see below*) announced the 2013 Arnold Classic as celebrating its 25th anniversary. However, wasn't 2013 really its 25th event and 24th anniversary ???

Gaspari won the first one in the 1989 inaugural event. Hence, the 1990 AC was its first anniversary, not its second. The 2013 AC was its 24th anniversary.

Again, it's a minor editorial issue, but you can understand how an industry that struggles against the perception that its practitioners are daft would want to get something as simple as this right (not to mention that Phil Heath's remark in the video starting at about 2:23, "what Rich did on stage transgressed into his business," is an embarrassing malapropism -- perhaps he meant to say 'transitioned' or 'progressed' -- I don't blame Heath as much as the video's editors).

*25th Anniversary?

If I'm not mistaken, because Gaspari won the inaugural event, which doesn't count as an anniversary (which marks a past event on a particular day). Mike Ashley won the event on its 1st anniversary in 1990.

Moreover, the term 'anniversary' is being used loosely (which is fine given the context of celebrating the perennial staging of the AC).

Here's a definition: "An anniversary is a day that commemorates or celebrates a past event that occurred on the same day of the year as the initial event. For example, the first event is the initial occurrence or, if planned, the inaugural of the event. One year later would be the first anniversary of that event"

Hey Ron as a man of the supplement world, what would you say is the best for lean muscle mass gains?  Gasparis stuff used to be great back in the day, not so much anymore.

Exactly, I don't know how people never get it.
