just like anything else involving humans, eventually there will be women who will be able to pass the course

I have no problem with that.
What I'm worried about is the course changing to pass the women, rather than the other way around.

I have no problem at all with them competing.  If they can meet the same standards as men then more power to them.  I'm sure we'll see a handful eventually make it through.

At least they are keeping the standard high

This all about women wanting high cabinet positions that the male flag officers get, after decades of service. Those who get combat commands tend to get promoted faster.

That's probably because there are more positions available.

They are going to need a lot of luck or drugs.

From the article:
"Importantly, though, if we do decide that a particular standard is so high that a woman couldn't make it, the burden is now on the service to come back and explain to the secretary, why is it that high?," said General Martin Dempsey

Why is an explanation needed?

I'm curious whether a woman has ever qualified for anything using male standards of qualification?

I doubt they would lower the standard to allow women to pass

how would that serve either the women's best interest or the military's best interst

They do it already in the military, law enforcement and fire services.

I was not aware of that

was it in a specific role where having different standards made a material difference in their ability to do the job or to the detriment of the safety or effectiveness of others?

They sure do.  For example, as part of the Marine physical fitness test, men have to do a certain number of pull-ups, while women just have to hang for a certain period of time.

And get this, the Army recently spent millions trying to revamp its physical fitness test, which would have included pull-ups for the first time, but they scrapped it, in part because they couldn't get enough women during the testing who could do pull-ups.

That's the question.  Is the standard what is being applied to the males or to the females?  If a female is qualified for a position based on passing standards applied to women; why are men being subjected to more stringent requirements for the same position.  Men are being held to a higher standard and that is clearly unfair and biased.
