Steve Reeves is up there with Arnold!
Steve was great no doubt, but not in Arnold's "league" of course that years before Arnold.

yeah not wanting to go off topic but i do not agree physique wise Arnold was the best. He has charisma and has drive and all of the other things ..true but i think Steve Reeves was a man of better integrity and really was more a mans man for me. I remember i spoke to George Helmer about him ( on the phone) always spoke very highly of Steve Reeves. Arnold is a very caramatic figure and he has his place in history too.

the oak won six olympias but 1980 remains controversial . his films are good but seldom great. . i wonder what he thinks of bodybuilding today . so different than his time.. . some people were inspired by him others found his grip on the sport too great and were turned off .

Everyone has their opinion. I guess that's why BB never became a Olympic Sport it's too objective although the Weider's tried to get it there. Great pics of him there Donny no doubt.

itīs funny because i am soon to be 47 and i grew up in the early(ish) Arnold Years and even as a kid you heard his name.. Arnold is really now "old School" .. just reflecting on past things..it really is sad when i hear of old Bodybuilders going away to the big Gym in the Sky.. you never knew them but did look at them as idols or role models. still new comes and progresses in itīs own way. regardless who was king itīs important to remember men like Steve Reeves and Jack lalanne.

He looks good , but way overrated .

Compared to who? the guys of today? compared to the guys he competed with he wasn't but I mean it's not really accurate to compare him to guys of today because of the advances in technology , training methods , nutrition , equipment , etc if he was born in 1980 he would still blow everyone away

His structure is exceedingly rare and I still haven't seen anyone who is 215lbs with a 29" waist at 6'1" and a 54" chest

True those two pretty pretty much responsible for getting things started, I'll add Vince Gironda and John Grimek.

In terms of what? physique? that can be argued but I can make a case for Reeves , in terms of success? Reeves was Arnold before Arnold , he won all the titles around before using bodybuilding as a stepping stone to Hollywood , at one time Reeves was the highest paid actor in Hollywood and Reeves left Hollywood and lived in his terms raised champion Morgan horses .

Like Donny touched on Reeves was a man of integrity , everyone of his contemporaries speak very highly of him , no stories of him knocking up the fat ugly maid  :-\

Seems he was a quality guy. For me Arnold was the first bodybuilder I saw and I have a similar structure as him so as Donny saw Steve Reeves his first glimpse of a BB he became a Reeves fan. We need some more Reeves pics ND fire up the scanner. Hulkster may jump in with Ronnie pics soon since you posted.

^^
What was phenomenal was he got himself so huge in JUST between 7-8 weeks of training, it was documented at World Gym.  I think COACH actually saw him training there for this contest...

Steve Reeves was/is the best in my opinion. he had it all..looks and was very athletic although i believe John grimek was very good in hand balancing and won a contest because of this.

Walker, Zane and Coe look scared to death when Arnold hit that pose and they should be he won another one.

lmao. bro Flex Wheeler had the sickest genetics of all time. Comparing Arnold to Flex is just not being real. We are all fans of Arnold but he is no flex. And dont give me the whole "if Arnold had competed in this era" stuff. Arnold simply would not ever compare to flex.
lol!!! how dare you compare arnold to ken wheeler?? did you forget that arnold did not use as much steroids as wheeler did, no gh, no seo, no implants, and was overall a better bodybuilder. you're nuts, my friend

p.s. no disrespect to flex meant

With Reeves you could look at a profile shot and get a straight edge...a ruler...and have it go from his nose to his chin unobstructed.. no simian-like prognathism....no pre-evolutionary mouth bulge getting in the way....plus aesthetics and natural genetics...

swartz.....?
If you were to size Steve Reeves up to say, the 80s or 90s size, you can tell, that he would have had a wide waist...
Steve is a great example that just a little bit of size can be just enough.
