Explosion hits fertilizer plant north of Waco, Texas
« on: April 17, 2013, 08:13:26 PM »
(CNN) -- An explosion ripped through a fertilizer plant Wednesday night in West Texas, causing dozens of injuries, officials said.

A hospital in Waco, Texas, has been told to anticipate 100 injured people coming in from the fertilizer plant area, an official at the medical facility said. Glenn Robinson, CEO of Hillcrest Hospital, said a field triage station was being set up on a football field near the plant some 18 miles north of Waco after the Wednesday night explosion.

"We have had a steady flow of patients coming in by ambulance as well as by private vehicles," Robinson told CNN's Anderson Cooper. He said more than a dozen injured people had been brought in by ambulances and "more than 20 -- that number is continuing to climb -- by private vehicle."

A photo after the explosion -- which reportedly happened around 7:50 p.m. (8:50 p.m. ET) -- showed a huge plume of smoke rising high into the air.

The West Fertilizer Plant is located just north of Waco. A school and a nursing home are among the buildings near the plant, CNN affiliate KWTX reported.

Senator Brian Birdwell said he was aware of the explosion and trying to get more information, a spokesman said.

"I stand ready to assist with any and all state resources that might aid the affected area," Birdwell said in a written statement.

Tommy Alford, who works in a convenience store about three miles from the plant, told CNN that several volunteer firefighters were at the store when they spotted smoke.

Alford said the firefighters headed toward the scene and then between five and 10 minutes later, he heard a massive explosion.

Hazardous material teams were being rushed to the scene, an emergency management official said.

i just want to kick the @#(&^#*& out of my television.

From the online reports, it looks like this town is leveled.   2800 people live there and they're ALL affected.  SICK damage.

And the networks REFUSING to show the suspects - I mean, do we seriously have to go to 4chan/prison planet to learn about america's most wanted, because CNN/FOX/MSN don't show it?  WTF

And barely a mention of the ricin attacks?  Terrifying.

Maybe I'm just a big whiner who feels betrayed by cable news.  Maybe the internet really is a better source of information than the real news?  Unreal.

3 major scary stories, and MSNBC crying in their cereal because the dems in senate gave the middle finger to the gun bill.
FOX news talking about mothers day books that oreilly recommends.... he wrote all 3.

fck off, cable news lol....

i hate that cable news does replays instead of breaking into actual news happening.

i mean, this week is almost unprecedented in modern history...

2 attacks and one massive explosion that seriously injured hundreds....

LOL @ piers morgan "We aren't showing the photos of the boston bombers, because we don't want to tip them off..."

BWAHAHAHAHA what a dumb shit.

Just curious, kool aid drinker. How come PMSNBC and CNN are all over the gun thing but nothing on the baby killer doctor that fetuses were found frozen and stuffed in plastic bottles. Also, how come nothing on the four Americans that ole Hillary and Obama help kill? No in their agenda? Look dude, you can't debat, you can name call and demonize but I haven't found a liberal (an honest liberal) that couldn't debate an issue if their life depended on it. Thisisnt hear say, this is fact. This even goes for the liberals in office.

Lets not start the "who is better" war in media... ::) They all quite obviously eat donkey balls.  The only reason you have so many today searching all over the hell on any source they can find when a story breaks is because the major media sucks ass bigtime, both right and left leaning.  It's pathetic beyond repair on both sides.  I trust getting at least a more honest effort from some news bloggers than I do from Fox, CNN or MSN...  People go on a search mission for news today.  That wouldn't happen if all these major news networks didn't suck total ass today.

I dislike corporate news and tend to avoid it.  Last night I was flipping through the channels and happened to come upon Hayes.  He was desperately trying to make the issue of the reports about a dark skin man at the bombing racist.  Guys like him are desperate for the bomber to be a white militia guy.  He was practically foaming at the mouth.   He strikes me as someone who came from affluence with an extreme guilt complex.

Chris Hayes is like most white communist progressives - a pussy, a pansie, a commie, a twink, scared of his own shadow, and a worthless pos.

He's a hypocrite.  He has formed an opinion in his mind based on his own prejudice but yet he condemns others for the very same reason.  Hypocrites shouldn't be allowed to preach.

Hayes is worse than any of that.  He is the ultimate in self-hating.  He seems to hate himself for a lot of reasons, and does the martyr card nonstop.

"Are we to blame for this?  How can we blame so-and-so for crimes when we are making them so angry.."   LOL

I heard it on the radio news and on Coast-to-Coast AM. When I turned on the TV, Fox News had it on its "Breaking News" segment, instead of a re-run of "On The Record".
