Ditching Weights = Rejuvenation

"Muscles don't mean shit"- Freddie Roach

When I heard that I decided to ditch bodybuilding and do body weight exercises just to see what would happen...

2 months later I'm leaner, faster, & much better cardio conditioned.

Not shitting on bodybuilding, but I my body feels healthy now.

Anyone else make this transition?

Yeah, I quit lifting a couple years ago.

I feel a lot better. My body feels less worn down, no more constant soreness from workouts. I just wake up and my muscles are all fresh and ready to do real work.

Also I look almost the same. I lost some density, but my mass is the same and I'm just as lean.

After you max out with lifting after about 5 years, you can just quit. Beyond that its basically just a masturbatory ritual.

Boxing already stimulates plenty of muscle growth in chest, back, core and arms. No need for weight training.

all drugs - TPPIIP

What body weight exercises do you do.

push ups and dips for chest, anterior delts, and triceps

chins and upper back rows on my Total Gym, for cardio I use a rowing machine which also works my lats and legs

Hindu squats and rowing work my legs okay.  I haven't noticed any loss in size (not that they were big to begin with) but my muscular endurance has increased significantly since stopping squats, leg press, hack squats

I'm not personal trainer or expert, just figured I'd try the bread and butter exercises, and they've worked for me.

No, Manny got knocked out because the fight turned into a brawl.

Manny made 1 wrong move and Marquez took advantage.

I have long understood this.  Only work out with weights "infrequently".

I get what you are trying to say, but they are different types of work outs and they serve different purposes. I am all for changing up your routine and try different things, but none is better than the other. The end goals are different, just pushing body weight won't give you or maintain a certain level of thickness.

For me instead of doing 50 pushups 5 times, I would much rather incline press 10 reps for 5 reps. Why not combine the best of both world? one month do body weights (calisthenics) and then the other month actually lift weights.

more and more I am getting into cycling, and a lot of cyclists have sworn off running since they consider riding a bike a more intense form of cardio.  But it would take you a couple of cycling to equal the cardio from running hills.

if you alternate you get the benefits of both, and also keep your work out routine fresh.

I have seen more guys who are in incredible shape who use body weight exercises than guys who lift weights. Maybe not steroid pose in your under wear look but real athletic shape. I lift but truth be told you can be ripped and be ass kicking ready from just running and body weight stuff.

it seems you are leaning more towards hypertrophy than S&C which is fine Im just a little confused by your point

I've started doing hand stands and hand walking and it absolutely wrecks your whole upper body in a good way and I feel that my punches are instantly a lot sharper approaching that amateur boxer speed without a doubt.
