Obama: I´ll do ´everything in my power´ to pass gun bill
 The Hill ^ | 5/3/13 | Amie Parnes

Posted on Friday, May 03, 2013 1:23:21 PM by Nachum

President Obama vowed on Friday he will "continue to do everything in my power" to pass gun control legislation, saying that it´s "the right thing to do." Delivering a speech in Mexico City at the National Anthropology Museum, Obama said he swore an oath to uphold the Second Amendment, and "I always will.” But he said passing legislation to prevent criminals from obtaining guns will "save lives" in both the United States and Mexico. Last month, the Senate rejected a measure that would have expanded background checks for gun purchases. After the legislation was defeated,

"Most of the guns used to commit violence here in Mexico come from the United States," President Obama said during a speech at Mexico's Anthropology Museum. "I think many of you know that in America, our Constitution guarantees our individual right to bear arms. And as president, I swore an oath to uphold that right, and I always will."

"But at the same time, as I’ve said in the United States, I will continue to do everything in my power to pass common-sense reforms that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people. That can save lives here in Mexico and back home in the United States. It’s the right thing to do," Obama added.

Michelle Obama: Gun violence has children fearing death every day

Michelle Obama: Gun violence has children fearing death every day By Justin Sink - 05/03/13 12:56 PM ET

First lady Michelle Obama said that students at a high school just five miles from her family's Chicago home told her that “every day they wake up and wonder whether they’re going to make it out of school alive.”

In an interview with "CBS Sunday Morning" that will air this weekend, the first lady said that when she met students after delivering a speech last month on gun violence, she was struck by the extent to which fear dominated the children's everyday lives.

“I mean, every single kid worries about their own death, or the death of someone, every single day,” Obama said.

The first lady traveled to her hometown to advocate for new gun controls ahead of the Senate's vote last month on a bill that would expand background checks on gun purchases. The vote fell five senators short of the 60 needed.

In the interview with CBS, Obama said that lawmakers have an "obligation to these kids" to try again.

“We have millions of kids living in these kinds of circumstances who are doing everything right,” Obama said. “And we, as a nation, have to embrace these kids and let them know that we hear them, and see them. One kid told me he felt like he lived in a cage, because he feels like his community is unseen, unheard and nobody cares about it."

Speaking in Mexico on Friday, President Obama said gun control would save lives on both sides of the border.

“Most of the guns used to commit violence here in Mexico come from the United States,” Obama said. “I think many of you know that in America, our Constitution guarantees our individual right to bear arms. And as president, I swore an oath to uphold that right, and I always will.”

“At the same time," Obama continued, "as I’ve said in the United States, I will continue to do everything in my power to pass common-sense reforms that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people. That can save lives here in Mexico and back home in the United States. It’s the right thing to do.”

President Barack Obama gave a shout out to Hispanic Americans in Mexico City on Friday -- an electorate with ever-growing clout widely considered to have propelled the 44th president to a comfortable re-election in 2012.

"In fact without the support of Latinos including so many Mexican Americans, I would not be standing here today as president of the United States. That's the truth," Obama said, speaking before a group of students at the National Museum of Anthropology.

Latinos voted for Obama over Republican Mitt Romney 71% to 27% in 2012, according to CNN. In 2008, Obama received 67% of the Latino vote.

why is it ingrained in American culture to not hold Mexico, it's citizens, or it's government accountable for anything?

Oh, yeah. It's the guns.

It's not the drug cartels fighting over trafficking routes. It's not the Zetas who continue to terrorrize locals and the police. It can't be them. It's the guns.

HEHEHEHEH!!!
There is not a scintilla of common sense in that fool.

If all the guns keep flowing to Mexico - is o-TWINK admitting he is doing nothing to stop it or is a failure or what he is already proven to be - a gun runner himself?

He would know, he's the one who made sure the guns got into the hands of the drug cartels.  You know, the cartels that kidnap people and saw off their fucking heads.  That's probably the USA's fault too.

Obama has someone or something to blame for everything.  George W. Bush, Republicans, the rich, the tea party, the United States, guns. The only reason he is able to get away with this is because he has the press in his back pocket.  The press is a bunch of dishonest, leftist whores.  They have no honor or integrity and should all kill themselves.

Obama Blames U.S. for Mexican Gun Violence – After His ‘Fast and Furious’ Guns Killed 300 Mexicans
 Stand With Arizona ^ | 05-03-2013 | John Hill

Posted on Friday, May 03, 2013 8:11:34 PM by montag813

Shameless: Obama blames the U.S. and 2nd Amendment for Mexican gun violence.

-

President Obama delivered a speech today in Mexico City where he blamed the United States for being the root of Mexico’s violence. He even implied that the 2nd Amendment was to blame, after absurdly claiming he was committed to "uphold" the right to bear arms.

But worst of all was the shameless hypocrisy of a man whose Attorney General Eric Holder carried out a gun-running "Operation Fast and Furious" which sold AK-47s and other weapons, which have been used to murder over 300 Mexican civilians, and 2 U.S. agents.

Direct quotes from Obama's speech today:

“And we also recognize that most of the guns used to commit violence here in Mexico come from the United States. (Applause.) I think many of you know that in America, our Constitution guarantees our individual right to bear arms, and as President I swore an oath to uphold that right and I always will. But at the same time, as I’ve said in the United States, I will continue to do everything in my power to pass common-sense reforms that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people. That can save lives here in Mexico and back home in the United States. It’s the right thing to do. (Applause.) So we’ll keep increasing the pressure on gun traffickers who bring illegal guns into Mexico. We’ll keep putting these criminals where they belong — behind bars."
Utterly disgraceful - on so many levels.
First, it is laughable that Obama is upholding the 'individual right to bear arms' after he just tried (and failed...for now) to pass the most broad-based gun-control legislation in a generation, and his political arm has promised to target every politician who opposed it.

Secondly, it was Obama/Holder 'Fast and Furious' which insanely, deliberately put nearly 2,000 weapons - mainly AK-47s - in the hands of murderous Mexican cartels, without any attempt to track them. Many experts believe this disastrous plan was to cause violence, which then could be used as a pretext for a wide-ranging gun ban in the U.S.

Whether or not that was the objective, the outcome is clear and monstrous: Over 300 Mexican civilians murdered - dozens of them children. And also 2 murdered American agents: Border Patrol Agent Brian A. Terry and ICE Agent Jaime Zapata.

In a single, horrifying massacre in 2010, as Spanish-language network Univision reported - 16 teenagers were slaughtered using 'Fast and Furious'-linked guns.

ALL were killed by the guns that Obama and Holder handed over to their killers. NONE of them were the result of so-called "gun traffickers" or the 2nd Amendment. For Obama to blame the United States for this wholesale slaughter is just despicable, but hardly surprising. The man has utterly no shame.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry told the Washington Times he was stunned by the president’s remarks.

“The idea that a United States president would go to Mexico and make that statement is incredulous,” Perry told the newspaper. “His goal – well before he became president of the United States — was to try to disarm the American public. He just disregards the Constitution.”
He disregards the law on guns, as he does on immigration. He disregards the truth, lying by denouncing his own country, on foreign soil no less.
Just despicable.

Obama blames American guns for Mexican deaths
 The London Daily Mail ^ | May 3, 2013 | David Martosko

Posted on Friday, May 03, 2013 7:54:32 PM by 2ndDivisionVet

President Obama used a speech at Mexico’s Museo Nacional de Antropología – the National Anthropology Museum – to claim that ‘most of the guns used to commit violence here in Mexico come from the United States.’

‘I think many of you know that in America, our Constitution guarantees our individual right to bear arms,’ Obama said. ‘And as president, I swore an oath to uphold that right, and I always will.’

‘But at the same time, as I’ve said in the United States, I will continue to do everything in my power to pass common-sense reforms that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people.’

‘That can save lives here in Mexico and back home in the United States,’ Obama added. ‘It’s the right thing to do.’

The president did not say if he was specifically referring to the illegal trafficking of firearms across the U.S.-Mexico border, but Senate testimony in 2011 from a top Department of Justice official indicates that he may be correct.

Lanny Breuer, then the Assistant Attorney General, referred a Senate Judiciary subcommittee to statistics showing that 94,000 weapons had been recovered from Mexican drug cartels in the previous five years, including 64,000 – a 70 per cent ratio – that could be traced back to the United States....

Obama cites Mexican writer who called the United States ‘protector of tyrants’
The Daily Caller ^ | 5/4/2013 | Patrick Howley
Posted on May 4, 2013 5:55:23 AM EDT by markomalley

President Barack Obama cited in his address to the people of Mexico on Friday a deceased Mexican writer who wrote that the United States was “the protector of tyrants,” condemned “North American imperialism” and expressed sympathy with an anti-American regime.

Obama repeatedly referenced Nobel Prize-winning Mexican writer Octavio Paz (1914-1998) in his speech Friday at the Anthropology Museum in Mexico City, which he visited on the second day of a three-day tour of Mexico and Costa Rica.

“In modern times, Mexico’s blend of cultures and traditions found its expression in the murals of Rivera and the paintings of Frida, and the poetry of Sor Juana and the essays of Octavio Paz,” Obama said.

“And Paz once spoke words that capture the spirit of our gathering here today — in this place that celebrates your past, but which this morning is filled with so many young people who will shape Mexico’s future. Octavio Paz said, ‘Modernity is not outside us, it is within us.  It is today and the most ancient antiquity; it is tomorrow and the beginning of the world; it is a thousand years old and yet newborn,’” Obama said.

“And that’s why I wanted this opportunity to speak with all of you today, because you live at the intersection of history that Octavio Paz was referring to,” Obama said.

Octavio Paz called the United States the “protector of tyrants” in his 1982 essay, “Latin America and Democracy.”

“The United States has been one of the principal obstacles we have encountered in our efforts to modernize ourselves,” Paz wrote in his essay. “In Latin America, the United States has been the protector of tyrants and the ally of the enemies of democracy.”

Paz also noted in his essay that he understood the anti-Americanism of the Nicaraguan government at that time.

Paz wrote in a 1987 essay for his literary magazine Vuelta that his pro-democracy viewpoints should not be confused with “the defense of North American imperialism, nor with that of Latin America’s conservative military regimes.”
