In 2002,
Chester Turner agreed to a plea deal in a rape involving a Skid Row womam that got him 8 years in prison in exchange for a sample of his DNA. That DNA linked him to the murders of 10 women and one of the women’s unborn child in South Los Angeles between 1987 and 1998.
A prison parolee and registered sex offender is suspected of killing five women in the city in just over a month, police said Friday.
Matthew Emmanuel Macon, 27, of Lansing, also could face charges for a sixth killing from 2004.
Carl Eugene Watts has confessed to more than 80 murders of women in Texas, Michigan and Ontario, Canada, yet he was set to be paroled in 2006. By May 1980, Watts was divorced. His wife stated that it was due to his strange behavior, which included his habit of leaving their home for hours, immediately after they engaged in sex. Within months, attacks in neighboring Wisteria, Ontario were being reported that were of the same nature as those in Ann Arbor and Detroit.
The formality in Wayne Circuit Court closes the case on
Shelly Andre Brooks, a homeless man whom authorities believe killed at least
seven prostitutes between August 2001 and June 2006. Investigators have said he may have killed another seven women, though no charges were filed in those deaths.
Derrick Todd Lee, also known as the Baton Rouge Serial Killer, prowled communities of south Louisiana for years before his capture and eventual conviction in two of at least seven cases of rape and murder of women in 2002 and 2003. At age 17 Lee was arrested for being a Peeping Tom, but even though he was a high school drop out with multiple complaints and arrests, he managed to stay out of going to a juvenile detention home.Derrick Todd Lee stayed on the move. In the 10 years that it is known that he was raping and killing women, he was also constantly changing jobs, moving to different cities in south Louisiana and doing time in and out of prison. It was not until he focused on areas around LSU and left the bodies of two of his victims at a boat launch at Whiskey Bay that investigators moved from solving murders to looking for a serial killer.
