No, the founding fathers were running away from tyrannical rule channelled through and justified by "the church".
They were still Christian, and by today's standards, very conservative.
two quick points.
1) all liberals are considered conservatives by later generations, because the zeitgeist always trends left. always. 30 years ago a democrat who thought gays should be allowed to have domestic rights via civil unions was a trailblazer, today that's the republican standpoint.
2) the founding fathers were enlightenment era thinkers. most of them were deists and a few were possibly atheists (in particular jefferson and adams). read their writings. there's a reason god isn't mentioned in the declaration or the constitution (save "their creator", an intentionally vague phrasing, and "nature's god" which is a far cry from yahweh).
not here to argue, just wanted to make sure that when you're out there debating pollerticks you're not working with incorrect info.
