Am I confused about Protein?
« on: May 10, 2013, 05:50:25 PM »
I was under the impression that plant based protein consists of an incomplete amino acid profile (or something like that), and as far as building muscle goes it's worthless?  I thought the only source of those lacking amino acids was meat products, eggs, and dairy?

???

You will never build any muscle without a complete amino acid profile intra- and post-workout.

Eating a variety of plants will help compliment proteins into adequate levels. Even a tomato has a gram of protein (mostly glutamic acid but that converts to glutamine pretty easily). The trick is consistent emphasis on staples like beans, rice, grains, and variety. Try new combinations of legumes, peas, and exotic grains as well as myco (fungi)-proteins such as the brand Quorn. Easy to gain or maintain muscle with variety and consistency.

Semantics really.

Just eat eggs, fish and whey... they have the highest BV.

Why worry about plant proteins at all (?)

You savage! 12oz quinoa is the equivalent to popping a handful of Dbol's pre-workout.

Till recently I was eating a lot of eggs and steak but the acidity was messing up my skin.

Now I'm only eating fish, vegetables, oats and some fruit. Nothing else  :-\

On the plus side, my face no longer has a reddish tinge to it and skin is cleared.

Would really like to add wholegrain bread and peanut butter as this diet is not so much fun.

Even had to cut down on coffee (acidic) out decaf (high acidity) and low-sugar hot chocolate (asparatame = acidic)  :'(

I try to eat a more alkaline-centric bodybuilding diet as well. You should look into apple cider vinegar as a daily supplement. I use several TBSPs daily, take it straight like a shot. It's awesome stuff and has massive alkalinizing effects. (Even though it's main ingredient is acetic ACID, by going through Kreb's cycle its end result will be a huge alkalinizing boost.)
