Quite the opposite.....why would he want something to remind him of something he just lost.
Because it is probably one of the few things that can still keep their memory alive.
When I was a young man (late teens), my father and I used to go to Washington Square Park (in New York City) to play chess with random NYU students, local Russians and even bums). Even after his death, I would often go to play chess with random strangers. Although, he was gone at that point, I would often feel as if he was still there over my shoulder, leaning in and whispering, "That was a stupid move you fool".
The memory of him is always amplified while playing there or even by walking past that park.
Keep their memory alive, they will forever be a staple of your life regardless of their passing.
