I would assume the ultimate goal for the observer in a Simulated Universe experiment is to see whether it's subjects figure out whether or not they live in that very Simulated Universe.
I also think that is a possibility. I have said it many many times.
But Nick Bostrom has been quoted saying that figuring such a thing out may be the worst thing we could do. He says "the last thing we may want to do is hold up a sign towards the sky saying I know this is a simulation".
Cus then the simulators may turn us off lol.
He also says a few things on "what we should do if we think we are in a simulation". here are some things he suggests.
1) Be entertaining. The simulators may become amused by you, causing them to enter you in future simulations.
2) Do stuff, don't sit around. Active sims are probablly more likely to be favored by the simulators.
3) Ask for upgrades or things you want. Don't be bothersome in your demands, just kindly ask they happen and see if the simulation favors you and delivers.
I dunno how I feel on those matters...but I do try to do all three...simulation or no simulation.
