lol. A lot of countries are against GMO. Read the news.

The only country where there is an outright ban is Peru.

The only thing about GMO I find offensive is when large corporations sue small farmers for patent infringement when their GMO seed, through no fault of the small famer, crosses with the crops on small family owned farms.  This is corporate behavior that I find offensive and not the GMO seed itself.   Protest against Gmo seems to be one of the current causes in vogue among liberal types and completely groundless.

You should read the lawsuits.  Monsanto doesn't prosecute small farmers because seeds blow onto their land.  When they do sue a farmer, they usually have very good reason to suspect the farmer was illegally using Monsanto seeds.  Things like spraying all the crops with roundup which you wouldn't do if they were conventional crops.

Farmers sign a contract whenever they buy Monsanto seeds that says among other things they will not try to reuse them and will buy new seeds the next year.  If the farmer doesn't like the conditions of the contract, they can buy their seeds elsewhere.  There are many choices.

A French farmer who is now disabled and unable to continue his farming duties because of pesticide poisoning has won in court against Monsanto!

Monsanto has been found guilty of chemical poisoning! A court in Lyon ruled that Monsanto’s Lasso weedkiller formula, (containing alachlor) caused Paul Francois to develop neurological damage as persistent memory loss, headaches, and stuttering during speech.

Reports say that the 47 year old farmer sued Monsanto in 2004 after inhaling the Lasso product while cleaning his sprayer tank equipment. Soon after, Francois had symptoms that prevented him from working. The reason Monsanto is getting caught out this time is because the Lasso’s packaging did not have adequate warnings about the dangers of exposure. The French court agreed with the claims and evidence presented, declaring earlier this year that “Monsanto is responsible for Paul Francois’ suffering and must entirely compensate him.” The court is said to be looking for expert opinions on how to gauge Francois’ losses in order to determine how much Monsanto should be required to pay.

“It is a historic decision in so far as it is the first time that a (pesticide) maker is found guilty of such a poisoning,” said Francois Lafforgue, Paul Francois’ lawyer, to Reuters.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), exposure to alachlor can cause damage to the liver, kidneys, spleen, eyes, and could lead to the development of anemia or even cancer. (http://water.epa.gov/drink/contaminants/basicinformation/alachlor.cfm)

In 2007, France banned Lasso in the country in accordance with a European Union (EU) directive enacted in 2006 prohibiting the chemical from further use on crops in any member countries. Despite the evidence shows alachlor can disrupt hormonal balance, reproductive or developmental problems, cancer, and still the chemical is still being used on crops throughout the U.S. to this very day. Let me guess...the people in charge of Monsanto will read about the marches and say, "By golly, we're been wrong all these years."  ::)

Gayer than "trying to raise awareness"

No, so let me guess.  Monstanto is evil and all GMO's are deadly poisons going to give us cancer, high blood pressure, ADHD, ADD, liver damage, makes us sterile, make us obese, and many others?  No I don't buy into that.

Even if you think GMO is great. How do you like Monsanto's way of conducting business? Trying to outlaw manufacturers right to put "non GMO" labels on their products. Trying to sue whole countries in Europe who have democratically outlawed GMO because it has been proven to carry health risks and still have risks/effects that have yet to be fully understood.

EU has a complete ban on GMO, do you really think that is without valid reason?
